Annemarie, I am responding directly to you and copying the Banat list on your Gasko question [thanks, Dave]. No need to excuse your English; it is far better than I could do in Deutsch. I am still pursuing Gasko research, but I have not been as active as I had been in the past. My Gasko line is somewhat similar to part of yours. My great-grandfather, Nicholas Gasko was born in 1862 in Pardan, married about 1884, likely in Temesvar, and came to the U.S. in 1907. He originally was in New York City, but had relocated to Detroit by 1920 to work in the auto business. A number of his descendents [myself & my cousins] are still in the Detroit area and still involved in the auto business. In the 1903-1930 time period, there were a number of Gasko families in the Wyandotte & Detroit, Michigan area. Wyandotte is on the Detroit River about 15 miles southwest of Detroit. Most of these Gasko families were clearly from Pardan. By 1920/1930, a number of the Wyandotte Gasko's had relocated from Wyandotte to Detroit. Coincidently, a lot of them were living within a 3-4 block area on the east side of Detroit. I am convinced these Gasko families are related, probably back in Pardan. Unfortunately, I have been able to prove this so far. Using ship manifests, census & marriage records, I have put together as much as I can on the various Detroit area Gasko families and have posted it online in my RootsWeb WorldConnect data. Here is a link: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=jacobsdata&re cno=3096 Other surnames connected to these Gasko's include: Bader, Bayer, Baumann, Baumstark, Csesztanevics, Graber, Grebeldinger, Harnick, Klupp, Malik, Moll, Redinger, Schwartz, Senft, Sternischer, Tisch, Troscany, Vanek, Wilhelm/Wischniewsky, Wunschel. Unfortunately, I have not yet found any information on any of your Gasko - Herr family. Would you have any additional info that you could provide such as: Did the Herr - Elsabetha Gasko marriage take place before or after she came to the U.S? Are you aware of the names of any other of your Gasko's who came to the U.S.? Any other clues you might have? I will help as much as I can with your Gasko family, If they came to the Detroit area, I believe there is a connction. At one time there were 4-5 people on the mailing list who were researching the surname Gasko. Many of these people have dropped away over the years. I will Cc this message to the Banat list in case we can pick up any researchers who have an interest in this surname. I encourage you to subscribe to the Banat List.
