    1. [BANAT-L] Sweet Milk Bread Recipe
    2. Laura McCollum
    3. Thank you to everyone who provided me with a recipe of sweet milk bread and "grappa". I found a family member that had the receipes and am pasting them for all of you here! Nana’s Grappa 3 egg yokes 2 cups warm milk 1 T. yeast 1/2 cup sugar 1 tsp salt 1 tsp. Vanilla 1/2 cup veg. oil 4 cups white flour ( will need at least 1/2 cup kneading and rolling) Dissolve yeast in warm milk, add sugar, egg yokes, oil and vanilla. Mix in 2 cups flour and then add salt. Add remaining flour and knead. If mixture is stick add small amounts of flour just to work easier. Dough must be very soft. Form 2 balls and place in a oil lined bowl and cover with plastic wrap for 40 minutes. Roll our one ball at a time to about 2 inches thick and cut circles. Place on floured board and cover to raise for 40 minutes. Mean while prepare your deep fryer with new oil. Take donut and with thumb and index finger tear center to make a hole and place in hot oil. Careful not to croud fryer as they will not cook evenly. Watch temp. Med heat works best. drain on newspaper or paper towel and dust with any sugers you like. Nana’s Milk Bread 1 quart (four cups) warm water 1 quart warm milk 4 egg yokes 3 tab yeast 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup veg oil 3 T. ground ginger 2 tab salt 17 cups white flour (extra needed for working dough) Egg yoke mix: 2 egg yokes + 2 tab water. Combine milk, water, yeast and sugar, allow to set until foamy. Add oil, egg yokes, ginger and 2 cups of flour at a time, adding salt after some flour has been added. Mixing well between then knead for 3-4 minutes. Cover and allow dough to rest for 20 minutes. Knead well again after rest. Cover and allow to raise 1 hour. To braid dough for fancy loaves take dough the size of a soft ball. Working on a floured board, roll dough in a rope shape 10 inches long,3 inches thick ( make 3) braid & form a circle and tuck ends under loaf. I put my big round loaves in a big glass pie pan. Brush with egg yoke mix and allow to raise 40 minutes. Have oven at 375 degrees. Bake for 45 minutes. Place bakes loaves on cooling rack and brush while still hot with sugar solution ( 1/2 cup sugar and 3 T. hot water) this should cover all loaves. This should make 4-5 big loaves. _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail is redefining busy with tools for the New Busy.
