    3. Hello! As we know the 30-year war in Europe ended in 1648. Large areas in what is today Germany was totally depopulated. But not so in Switzerland, which became independent from the Holly Roman Empire that same year. Switzerland had actually a population explosion about that time, and after the war ended thousands of Swiss people rushed into southern Germanic areas and settled there. Some of those descendants eventually emigrated to the New World of Canada and USA. NORBERT EMMERICH just published a book covering the Swiss settlers to Heidelberg in Baden: "SCHWEIZER (Einwanderer) IN HEIDELBERG" nach dem dreißigjährigen Krieg". 600 pages with a list of 1600 Swiss families, who settled in Heidelberg. It costs Euros 31.00 plus shipment. To order please write to verwaltung@ahnenpuzzle.com Rosina www.hrastovac.net
