    1. [BANAT-L] Tenth Mt Angel Donauschwaeben Heritage Celebration
    2. Dave Dreyer
    3. The tenth Donauschwaeben Heritage Celebration at Mt Angel, Oregon this last weekend is now history. On this two day meeting there were a sprinkling of attendees who had been at the first meeting ten years ago when an informal group had met on the steps of the Mt Angel city hall. The program this year was as follows Ray Borschowa(Mt Angel) who gave a talk on the German element in Mt Angel and which included a number of photos of the group's previous meetings. Glenn Schwartz(Regina) lectured on the many personal contacts he and his co-travelers had made during their three trips to the Banat. Jerry Jakobs (Bloomfield Mich) scheduled to speak but unfortunately was unable to attend. Henry Fischer(Oshawa Ont Canada) discussed the complex series of events accompanying the fragmentation of Hungary following World War I and leading up to World War II. Rosina Schmidt (Nanaimo BC Canada)gave a talk about the fate of kids who lost their parents in Serbian concentration camps during the period 1944-1947. John Michels(Spokane)discussed the political situation in Serbia which followed from the disbanding of the Serbian concentrations camps. Dave Dreyer(San Mateo CA) discussed the founding of the St Hubert Heimat Museum. Anna Morrison(St Louis) discussed her program to interview and document survivors of the Serb concentration camps. The filming these interviews has resulted in a format more adapted to potentially reach a much wider audience than print alone. We will look forward to eventually seeing some of her films on our local PBS station. The film can be previewed at ; http://www.hectv.org:80/programs/spec/program.php?specialid=49 See also; http://www.501connect.com/non-profit-news/the-forgotten-genocide-from-shared-stories-to-service-project-to-a-documentary-project The book sales table of donated books was a roaring success this year and sold out most of the material which will offset some of the expenses associated with renting the venue. All the AVBF Banat family books which are on CD were also available for sale at the event. The audio visual support was provided by David Preston(Las Vegas) who arranged for a live broadcast of the talks from the meeting and which was viewed worldwide by 146 people. Dave Dreyer
