Since no one else seems to have commented, it was customary for men to be the witnesses at a marriage rather than our current custom of a man and a woman. Many times the honor of being witness to the marriage was given to the godfathers of the groom and the bride. I have seen this happen often when I read the records for my family in Glogowatz. Further, when children were born to the marriage, it was also customary for the child to be named for the his/her godparent. If that child died, the name would be used again for another child if that person was the godparent again.
