Dee; It appears that Josef Koch was born in Ernsthausen but the family lived in and the kids were born in Rudolfsgnad. The Ernsthausen KBs are in the Neusatz archives and the only way to access them is to go there or have a local resercher look for your data. The Ernsthausen Hemat book has a list of families in 1871 and in HN 52, lived a Johann Koch with wife Gertrud NN which could easily be the parents of Josef. Philipp Lung has written a family book for Rudolfsgnad but it was based on incomplete data and your Koch guys are not in his book. As I understand it he is working on an updated version but I have no idea when it will be finished. Enrsthausen was a daughter village and all the orgional setters had to come from another Banat locality. You might look and see if you can find the WW I draft registration for the oldest son and see what it says on his place of birth. His departure port was Fiume and last residence was listed as R. Toguad. He joined his brother-in-law Janos Hoffmann in Louisville, KY. According to his daughter Agnes' written account, this was his second attempt at coming to the US. He was refused entry on the first attempt because he was sick. I'm still trying to find records to verify this. Two of his children, Josef Jr and Agnes, followed a little later, arriving in New York aboard the Pannonia on Dec 12, 1905. Their departure port was Fiume and last residence was listed as Bridolfguaden. They joined their father in Louisville. At some point between their arrival and Sept 1906, the three moved to Pittsburgh, PA. Theresa and the three remaining children, Elizabeth, Susan and Josef John arrived in New York Sept 9, 1906 aboard the Carpathia. Their departure port was Naples and last residence was Rudolfsgnad. They joined the rest of the family in Pittsburgh. Two more sons were born after they arrived. Matthew was born in 1908 and Paul was born in 1911. Paul died in 1916 and at some point between then and the 1920 census, the family moved to Crawford County, PA settling in the Springboro/Titusville area. Some of the descendants still live in the area. I just found their petition for naturalization today. It's dated Sept 5, 1911. Theresa must have been hugely pregnant at the time because son Paul was born the very next day. Below is the information from the naturalization papers. Josef Koch b Sept 4, 1869 in Ernesthana, Hungary Theresa Koch b in Rudolfsgnad, Hungary Joseph Koch b Mar 22, 1892 in Hungary Agnes Koch b Jan 30, 1894 in Hungary Elizabeth Koch b Oct 6, 1901 in Hungary Susana Koch b Oct 25, 1899 in Hungary a pretty much illegible name b Jan 6, 1904 in Hungary (judging by date this is son Joseph John) Matthew Koch b June 4, 1908 in Pittsburgh, PA The Susana on the naturalization petition went by Susan or Anna on the records I have found. According to what I've been told by family, there was another child named Susana who was born July 29, 1896 and died July 30, 1896. Since all of the other children were born in Hungary, it's a fair assumption that's where she was born and died as well. Basically what I'm hoping to find is the parents and siblings of Josef Sr and Theresa, Theresa's maiden name, when and where they got married, and where in Hungary the children were born. He was born in 1862. I found a reference that his father may have been named Andrew, but have not confirmed this yet. He married Theresa Unknown ca 1891. Her maiden name may possibly have been Hoffmann, but I haven't been able to verify this. They had six children prior to their immigration to the US-Josef Jr (b 1892), Agnes (b 1894), Susanna (b and d July 1896), a daughter who went by Susan or Anna (b 1899), Elizabeth (b ca 1901) and Josef John (b 1904). > > I know the family lived in Rudolfsgnad at least a couple years because Agnes mentioned it in her account of the family coming to the US and it was listed as last residence for Theresa and the three youngest children in Ellis Island records. > > If anyone has any information on this family or can point me in the right direction to find it myself, I'd really appreciate it. > > Thanks > > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BANAT-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
