I know we are have experiences in looking up shipping manifests into US ports to trace our ancestors. My great grandparent returned to their home town of Kudritz 3 times. Do anyone have an information on how to trace passenger list from the US? Neither were US citizens, so I have no passport information Roy w Shiflet -----Original Message----- From: banat-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:banat-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of banat-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, June 19, 2010 3:01 AM To: banat@rootsweb.com Subject: BANAT Digest, Vol 5, Issue 169 Today's Topics: 1. Since these are jpeg "photos", I will send them to Lydia, off-list. I could look for anyone else also researching these Syrmian places, including Neudorf and Vincovci, just let me know. I remember buying it in 2000 at the Heimattag der Banater Schwaben. There is a beautiful map entitled "Rum?nien N?rdliches Banat und Arader Land" with bilingual (Romanian & German) names for the once German-populated localities. It was published by the H?fer Verlag (www.hoeferverlag.de) and carries ISBN 978-3-931103-4. I believe that it is also available from landsmannschaft@banater-schwaben.de in Munich for 10.90 Euros (plus packing & shipping). A simpler way of purchasing it was from Mr. Rainer Kapp in the USA. Unfortunately, I changed computers and cannot locate Rainer's address. I am aware of the dvhh map and I use it constantly. What I neglected to mention is that I am looking for a 'real' map. One that I can hang on my wall or use anytime. One that I can purchase. I bought a copy from Steve Herold a few years ago. I had it laminated and it hangs beside my desk. It is very handy. I suspect this is the one Rosina refers to that will be for sale at Mt. Angel. I also have the Northern Banat map referred to by Nick below. It is a 1:200,000 scale, so it is pretty detailed. It is also pretty large (abt 39" x 25"), so you would need a little more wall space. I am a map guy, so I love this map for the detail it shows, but not everyone is that interested in these details. It has the current names and German names of villages. Unfortunately, it only covers the northern Banat down to a Detta/Moritzfeld line. I had the pleasure to meet Guenther Philipp, the man behind this map, in Ulm this past May. He is a charming young gentleman dedicated to preserving his DS heritage. He told me that he hoped to have the southern Banat map ready this autumn. I don't have the contact info for Rainer Kapp either, but you can contact Guenther at guenther_e_philipp@yahoo.de The map was for sale for 10.90 Euros at the Ulm Treffen, but he is charging $22USD or $25 CAD to mail from Germany. I will I will forward a couple of emails to the list that add a little more detail. This is the really great feature of this map. It also has, of course, uptodate roads, railways, rivers and so on. It also shows the historic borders of the Banat. Any of you who have roots from the BANAT and would like to get one of these maps please let me know your adress and I will send you one (US$ 22 or Can$ 25, including postage).
