Hi Betty I accidentally just sent off a “reply “ that was not a reply. My mother comes from the Meissner family (with an M, not an N). Her grandfather Johann Meissner and his father Josef Meissner lived in Setschan. Could your Neissner actually be Meissner? The name indicates that at some time the people came from Meissen, Germany. Lee, you have been stuck with the Meisner thing for so long it might be a good idea to start looking at the spelling variations. Good luck. Hi Pat, Oh, yes, there are several Meissner variations: Meissner (Hungarian), Meisner, Mussner (mistaken census transcription), Misner, Etc. My great grandfather Josef Meiszner was an orphan in Setschan. The story stopped there. It’s the Streitmatters (Stritmatter, Strittmater, Streitmater, etc. that drive me crazy in the transition from Germany to Banat. The German (Hans) Jakob Strittmater was a Lutheran while all in my family have been Catholic, including Jakob. Sorin told me on our first Banat trip that sometimes one has to accept that there is no more information. I may be at that point. Happy Spring! It was a bright, sunny day here, and I took the dogs for a walk, smiling all the way. :-) Lee > On Mar 20, 2018, at 1:21 PM, Pat Haley <patibaja@hotmail.com> wrote: > > Lee, you have been stuck with the Meisner thing for so long it might be a good idea to start looking at the spelling variations.
