    1. [BANAT-L] Stasa Cvetkovic coming to Minneapolis
    2. Karen Dalton Preston
    3. Dear List Members, Many of you are familiar with Mr. Stasa Cvetkovic, the well-known genealogist who specializes in Banat and Batschka research. Some of you may have heard him speak at the Mt. Angel Treffen in Oregon in 2014. Stasa will be in Minneapolis for the Int’l German Genealogy conference in July and is planning a seminar to be held either before the conference dates, or just after (the seminar will not be part of the IGGC program). I am posting the following announcement on behalf of Stasa: Mr. Staša Cvetković, Serbian genealogist specializing in Donauschwaben genealogy, will be in the Twin Cities this summer for the International German Genealogy Conference, July 28-30. We are conducting a short survey in order to plan a seminar to be presented by Mr. Cvetkovic. Please take a few minutes to reply to this survey as soon as possible. Thank you! a) Are you going to attend 2017 International Germanic Genealogy Conference from 28 – 30 July 2017 in Minneapolis? b) Would you be interested in a related genealogy event that would occur either before or after that conference? MULTIMEDIA LECTURES by experienced genealogist from Serbia, Mr. Staša Cvetković, would address some of the important topics related to the GENEALOGY OF ETHNIC GERMANS in the area of today’s Romania, south Hungary including Slavonia, and Serbia (Banat, Batschka). Some of the subjects to be covered: · Civil records repositories and access to the records which are protected by privacy protection laws (usually 100 years); · Use of land survey records in genealogy; · Closing of the remaining gaps related to the parish records in the region; · Private life of Banaters in 18th, 19th and the first half of the 20th century with the special spotlight on the Banat geography, architecture, regional cuisine, transportation and other subjects. · Your suggestions and questions related to the topics are very welcome, especially at this point of planning! c) If you are interested, which day(s) would be best to hold the lectures? Before the conference dates: Wednesday 26 July; Thursday 27 July; OR after the conference dates: Monday 31 July; Tuesday 1 August 2017? Would you attend a daylong event, or only evening(s)? We would like to point out that the most probable location for the lectures would be in South St. Paul, MN. d) The price would be $40.00 USD for early registration for the daylong event (early registration will be opened around 20 April and would last until 15 June**). After 15 June, the cost would be $50.00 USD for a day-long event registration, $30.00 USD for half of the full day event (block of 3-4 lectures). **Tentative dates. We would inform you about the exact window for the early registration. e) Mr. Staša Cvetković will be available for one-on-one genealogy consultations during his stay in Minneapolis. If you are interested, please e-mail directly to Mr. Cvetković at synergia@gmail.com <mailto:synergia@gmail.com> with the description of your interest or genealogy problem. Please also include a copy (CC) of your e-mail to the program organizer, Mrs. Vicki Albu at valbu@comcast.net <mailto:valbu@comcast.net> f) If you are interested, would you like to receive the updates about the event by e-mail? Please note that we are also planning an additional daylong seminar for Romanian Genealogy Society on one of these dates. Let us know if you would be interested in that program as well. Please reply to both Staša Cvetković synergia@gmail.com <mailto:synergia@gmail.com> and organizer Vicki Albu at valbu@comcast.net <mailto:valbu@comcast.net> as soon as possible. Thank you! 3. Hi Lynda, I was there with a group tour in 2010 with Stasa as guide. The church roof collapsed in an earthquake several years ago and there are trees growing inside the church. The very little bit that remains of the cemetery is in a clump of bush just outside the village and north or northeast of the church. I wrote a blog about our trip with one picture. You will find it at http://zichydorf10.blogspot.ca/. We were there on May 30. I have a few more pictures I can share if you want to contact me off list. You can also find it on Google maps and go to satellite view. Our group has some digital church records. Check out what we have at http://zichydorfonline.org/genealogy/3-genealogy/288-church-records-digital-images. I believe that there is also an online Familienbuch. I don't recall the URL, but you should be able to find it in a Google search. 3. Hello Lynda, I have not been to Ofsenita, Romania, but I was very near there in September of last year, visiting many small towns around Timisoara. I can highly recommend an English-speaking tour guide, Alexandra Irimia aka Timisoara Tour Guide. Also Stasa Cvetkovic of Synergia Genealogy Services has expert knowledge about Germans in Banat, and he may be available for research and tour guiding, depending on his schedule. He is a member of this list and can probably answer your questions about whether churches and graveyards still exist there. 3. Dear List Members, One of my DNA chromosome matches named Pete finally found an ancestor who set off for the Banat from the Rhineland. (I am sure there will be more.) I know Pete is linked to my Mercydorf branch of the family because of a triangulation match with two others who also have roots in Mercydorf. W&K show his relative Johann REINSBACH and 6 others (probably his wife Barbara WILLEMS and their children) registering in Vienna on May 16, 1786. However, we do not know where the family settled in the Banat. It is not in Mercydorf. I thought the answer might be found in the “R” Stader book, and I was wondering if anyone with the book could please do a look-up for Johann REINSBACH/REINSPACH/REIMSPACH/REIMSBACH and his wife Barbara WILLEMS. Thanks, in advance, for any help you can give Pete. I cannot change my Yahoo e-mail account to “plain text,” so I am sending this through another list member. Sincerely, Cathy Teufel O’Neill

    1. [BANAT-L] Hüpfel Familie in Ketfel
    2. Daniel Sedley
    3. Rudolf, In response to your inquiry regarding Hüpfels in Ketfel, the following info is found in the Ketfel-Kleinsiedel Heimatbuch (by Hilde Bücher, 2005). In 1940, Georg (geb. 1901) and Barbara Nies and their 2 children, Anna (geb. 1926) and Wilhelm (geb 1927) lived in house #46. Barbara (geb. Hüpfel) was born in 1906. Also living at that address was Theresia Hüpfel (geb. Wolf in 1876). One could assume that Theresia was Barbara’s mother. Unfortunately there is no information regarding Theresia’s husband, who was a Hüpfel, and presumably deceased by that time. In 1970, Georg and Barbara (geb. Hüpfel) Nies still lived in that house, with their daughter Anna, who had married Franz Feiler. Their children, Richard Feiler (geb. 1955) and Gerhard Feiler (geb.1957) also lived there. Narrative in the book (Seite 344) speaks of “Ketfeler Musikanten”, of which Wilhelm Nies and and Franz Feiler were members in the late 1940s and 1950s. It’s not much, but the Hüpfel family had some presence in Ketfel. 3. Thanks so much for your offer to call the archive, Stasa. I can confirm that I’m looking for Josef Jerhoff, born circa 1879 to Lorenz Jerhoff and Elisabeth Samson (Angela Brenesel is actually Josef’s wife from Ernsthausen). Some details on Josef’s parents, in case it helps: I have no record of Elisabeth and Lorenz’s marriage. They had a total of five additional children born in Ernsthausen between 1881 and 1889. I don’t know if Josef was the only child not born in Ernsthausen, but he is the oldest as far as I know. For Elisabeth Samson, I know she was born in Tschestereg in 1854, and that she later remarried in 1906 in Ernsthausen, to Paul Merle. For Lorenz Jerhoff, I have only his name from both the record of Josef’s marriage to Angela Brenesel in Ernsthausen, and the US marriage record for one of Josef’s sisters. I’ve looked through the Ernsthausen death records from 1895-1916 and can’t find him, so I’m thinking he may have died between 1889 and 1895. I’d been feeling very frustrated — I found all those other Jerhoffs, too, Dave, but can't be certain of connections without being able to pin down Josef (and his father Lorenz). Now I feel like I have some direction again. According to late Ft. Eros Lajos' book about the history of RC Parishes within today Nagybecskerek Bishopric (the book was published in 1993), Roman Catholics born in Botoš were baptized in Perlez (Perlas, Perlasz) until the establishment of Ernstahusen parish, which then parochially covered RC in Botoš. But since you have checked Ernsthausen records and he was not baptized there, maybe it is worthwhile to check Etschka and few other nearby places (Dave made a good suggestion, I would just add Perlas, too) Best of luck! >> Staša Cvetković, Synergia >> >> On Thu, Mar 23, 2017 at 3:54 AM, <ddreyer@pacbell.net> wrote: >> Linda, >> If I have it right Botosch(Botos) is located on the Temesch a bit south of Ernsthausen. >> In addition to Setschan and Ernsthausen, Sartscha, D Etschka, and Sigmundfeld are other German villages in the neighborhood.
