Help is needed to find a marriage record for my great aunt Elisabetha Servo to Menyolt Renon in the Banat. I'd also like to find birth records for her three daughters Katharina, Barbara and Rosa who were born in the Banat. Here is what I know: Familienbuch Deutsch Zerne record 10228 lists Elisabetha's birth in 1866. She is my grandfather's older sister. According to passenger list records she came to Detroit in 1921 with her three daughters Katharina, Barbara and Rosa, but her husband was not with her. Those records indicate they were coming from Heufeld, but there is no record of them in the Heufeld Family Book. Curiously, the Heufeld FB record R048 lists another Elisabeth Servo married to a Melchoir Renon. But that person is shown to have died in 1909 and is not my great aunt. The David Dreyer emigration list on rootsweb shows the family came from Billed with two of the daughters born there and the oldest daughter born in Minaei, which is not in the list of Banat villages. Katharina filed for citizenship in 1954 and lists her birthplace as Nemit, Saint Michael, Hungary, which is today called Sânmihaiu German, Romania. Is there another book for this place? Regards, Larry Fischer

Should know the context the term was used. "Zeitgeist" is the thinking and feeling of people within a determined historical epoch. For example, Zeitgeist which was ruling during the 40th, the centuries turn and so on. The combination of Zeitgeist and ancestry ("Abstammung") doesn't make sense without context. Guys, since you have an exact date of birth, try with FB (not Facebook ;) Hatzfeld, St. Hubert, Mastort, Heufeld .... I had few cases with whole bunch of Massongs, all coming from a.m. areas. Of course, they can be scattered across many more places around, but it does not hurt to check those FB. Hopefully, you will find something useful in USA sources. Good luck! By the way, for everyone that may be interested - I have met Sorin Fortiu yesterday in Timisoara. He is writing a series of articles for various historical magazines and he is preparing a book about the historical evolution of "banships"(banovina - after which Banat got its name) as I undestood :) Take care! According to Minnesota Historical Society death index at www.mnhs.org, Anna Massong died 29 April 1964 in Ramsey County, Minnesota. Related surname on the death index is Exner. I did not find her memorial in MN on Findagrave.com. I don't understand German or the last line about registration or stereotypes (probably a Google-ism). With maps and heavily illustrated. The many illustrations picture the rugged terrain under the the campaigns were conducted. The 7th SS was recruited mainly from Donauschwabes and Siebenburgers.>> Maybe this is covered in the book, but having read a little about the history of this division, is there a general idea of a percentage of Donauschwaben men (of age) from the Banat that volunteered or were conscripted into this division? In other words, if you were a 25 year old Donauschwab male in the Banat in the early 1940's, would you very likely have been conscripted into this division, or would it still have been a relatively small portion of that population? Is your Harvath family from eastern PA? I have a copy of a family photo from Lehigh Valley area. Took a screen shot when I saw it on ebay. Hated for the descendants not to get it. Hugs
I apologize. Someone did a Deschu lookup for me. I promised to look for her family in my Johannisfeld Familienbuch. I had loaned it out and just got it back. Now I can't find her email with her address and the names she wanted me to lookup. Email me again with the names. Sorry. Hugs Cathy Deschu
