    3. Hello Danube Swabians, As so many of you wrote, this year's Mt. Angel Treffen was not only gemuetlich but inspirational as well. What could we do better next time around? As Dieter Howald suggested, " there were a few camp survivors in the assembly, and certainly a number of Fluechtlinge who remembered being evicted and driven from their homes and property, then endured the horrific trek to Germany, to a country that could least afford them and did not want them anyway. These individuals are still with us today, but aging fast, they are an invaluable resource to a group like yours and in my opinion should have been given the opportunity to speak to the assembly on their experiences, on the memories they still harbour in their hearts." So please, tell us your stories. On these lists or send your experiences directly to my above address. We not only would like to know, we need to know! Hope to hear from you soon, Rosina www.hrastovac.net

    3. Hi Dave and Dave, Kriva Bara's (Ujfalu) early records (when Lorenz and Anna (Rollinger) Horvath's children were born are included in the Gross Gaj parish records and can be obtained from Glenn Schwartz. These records begin in 1832, but Anna Rollinger is not included in these records. There is no indication that I have come across on any of the records for their children that give any indication where Anna was born. 3. Although I was not at the strudel making class (went to the Oktoberfest), I was one of the lucky ones who had the pleasure of sampling Leah's strudels - pulled strudel with a variety of fillings, as well as the poppy seed strudel, all delicious. Thank you so much, Leah. I found this interesting website with several videos on making pulled strudel (German: "Gezogene Strudel" or "Ziehstrudel"). Scroll down just a bit, the ladies speak Hungarian, but there are German and English captions. There is also a video of a master baker - is he ever fast! http://klostersuppe-mit-haube.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html The first 3-part video shows an 88-year old Hungarian lady, she reminds me so much of my mother as she kneaded and pulled out the dough - take note of her kneading method. I would have to help her with the pulling, she on one side of the table and I on the other. There are more strudel videos, each with a slightly different method. You will also note that there are two ways of adding the filling: either spreading it all over the dough or placing it in a strip along one long edge. My mother put her filling along one edge, she insisted that spreading it all over made the dough soggy Happy baking, Rose Vetter in Richmond, BC On 25 September 2010 09:58, Rosina T Schmidt <rosinats@shaw.ca> wrote: > > Hello Strudel Makers Hopefuls, > > If you have not discovered it yet, David Preston filmed Leah Ott's Strudel > class (and slides), please see: http://www.banatbooks.com/Treffen.htm. > > As Marilyn writes below, watching the lovely presented video makes not only > your mouth water, but makes you eager to bake your own Strudel also. > > Thanks, David! > > Rosina > P.S. am making apple Strudel right now.... > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Marilyn > > > > Rosina and David -- I once again tried to view the video and lo and behold, > I finally got to watch the entire baking session. 3. Marvin; Both Peter Winandi and Rose Himmel are to be found in the Ujwar family book by Josef Kuhn. Peter is the son of Jakob Winandi and Anna Lukasz and Kuhn suggests that the family came from Gertianosch. Rosalia Himmel, was the daughter of Leopold Himmel and Anna Schmid. Her brother Mathias auswandered to Wyandotte MI in 1907. The Himmel family came to Ujwar from D Etschka. The Ujwar family book is out of print but the D Etschka family book, although also out of print, is available on CD. See Banatbooks.com. You can also get the Ujwar church books on microfilm from the FHL in Salt Lake. 3. Mary Anna; Your data fits like a glove with that in the Kl Betschkerek by Ditmar Giel. One can track your family back through the generations in the book to the orgional settlers to Kl Betschkerek. The family came orgionally from Geblingen/Lothringen and were registered in passing through Vienna in 1784. Once the book is printed there is no way to modify it. The best you can do is contact the author with your data in the event that the book is released as a CD after the printed version goes out of print. You can order the book from the AKdFF-----see their website where you can send a message directly to order. 3. Mary Ann; Did you ever get a reply to your query? There are extended families of Klemenz in the Kl Betschkerek family book but because the same given names tend to be repeated over and over it is not possible to identify your guys from the data you give. One needs some birth dates or parents names to make a selection. 3. Debbie - I have combed through Ruskodorf records at the local LDS Family History Library.  The records start at approx 1806 and stop at 1840 for births & deaths and 1853 for marriages.  Unfortunately the name Nothof is not listed in indexes for births, deaths, or marriages occuring up in that time period in the towm of Ruskodorf.  Perhaps the family moved to Ruskodorf from another town after that time.  Hope this helps guide your search.  The Banat List is a wonderful resource with so many folks giving their time to help one another.  I know I am indebted! They were from Ruskodorf and their destination was to an uncle, Christof Sebastian in Chiago. That is the easy part. No one has the Ruskodorf church books(KBs)----that I know of. That means that the KBs will have to be consulted in what ever archives they are deposited in-----probably Gr Kikinda. This would require a trip to the archives or contact a researcher in Serbia to do it for a fee. > If you want to follow the latter option I can recomend a lady who lives in Gr Kikinda. She is frequently used by Banat List subscribers. Steve has probably recomended that you subscribe to the Banat List. If not, you should consider it. It is possible that you can find other Ruskodorf researchers on the list. > Dave Dreyer > ----- Original Message ----- > From: DaJoDane@aol.com > To: ddreyer@pacbell.net > Sent: Thursday, September 16, 2010 2:17 PM > Subject: Nothof family help? > > > > Hello Dave, > > I am trying to research my family.
