Hi John, The Pardan FB is too early for your family to show up, but they do show up in the index of the Pardan later records. The index shows that Michael Gruber and Anna Wagner had the following children: Eva - 1871 Nikolaus - 1872 Anna - 1874 Michael - 1875 Josefa - 1879 Michael Gruber is not listed in the index as being born in Pardan, but there is an Anna Wagner listed in 1841. Michael is not listed in the Sartscha FB either. Söldész (or, if the accents don't come through: Soldesz) but it could also be: Földész / Jöldész / Jöldésr / döldész / göldész / Söldísz Földész, old-fashioned word for farmer. föld = soil, -ész= -ian, as in electrician. The word "földész" means more than just person who cultivates the soil. Beside "soil", "föld" also means land, and "földész" also implies the person who owns and works the land. While I know those of us who have Ernsthausen family all want much much more, this has helped me to remain hopeful that there will one day be more data forthcoming. In viewing these records, although I already knew much of the information from our family's narrative history and records that refer to births, I have now seen my paternal great grandparents and my grandfather's siblings on record -- for the first time. With the help of Google Translate, I think I have figured out many of the standard headings in the records. But, with all the handwriting flourishes, I know I am probably not alone in being mystified about some of the words and spellings. Some of them are especially intriguing because they seem to note a person's status or occupation, via a brief one-word notation after their name. I'll just note a few below that I think I have right, and a couple that are nagging at me impossibly. 1. Do these seem right? A million thanks to everyone who helped decipher our postcards with the difficult handwriting, especially Rose, Hans, Anni, Helen and anyone else I missed. Thanks also for the insights into the clothing. All of the photos we posted at http://picasaweb.google.com/marceschulz/Parison# were included in a box of effects we received when my husband’s father’s cousin died in a nursing home a few years ago. Only a couple of the photos are of my husband’s direct ancestors, and the rest aren’t identified in any way. All of the old folks are gone and the only clues to the identities are in the photos themselves. We only know that the people came from Bogarosch, Peszac and Varjas and the family names were Schütz, Parison, Kratochwill, Weber, Hokl and Regeis. We’re certain the photos will be treasured by someone, so I’m on a mission to figure out who the people are and find descendants to send the originals to. Recently I was surfing the Internet searching for info on an old photograph reportly taken in 1838 by Louis DaGuerre, of a residential street scene in France. I was surprised to see Street Lights in the photo so I began searching the history of street lights, and guess I found!! Just plain fascinating. Tom Modernization of Timişoara Timişoara in 1910The development of the city continued after the attempted 1848/1849 revolution. In 1849, Timişoara became the capital of the new Habsburg province named Vojvodina of Serbia and Tamiš Banat. The province was abolished in 1860. In 1853 telegraphy was introduced in the city, and in 1857 Timişoara received gas street lighting. In 1857 a train line linking Timişoara with Szeged was constructed, and in 1867 horse trams were introduced in the city. Timişoara became the first European city to have electric street lights in 1884, while the trams became electric in 1899. Timişoara was also the first city in the Kingdom of Hungary and later Romania to have an ambulance station. After World War I, following a short-lived Banat Republic, and entry of the Serbian forces into the city, Timişoara was incorporated into the Kingdom of Romania in 1919 together with most of the Banat region.
