    1. [BANAT-L] My roll call text (John Gruber)
    2. Banat List Admin
    3. This is a post from John Gruber (john.gruber@sympatico.ca <mailto:john.gruber@sympatico.ca>) which was recently posted to the List with an empty body. Below is the missing text. =====> I'm stuck on the following 4 events. As said below, no records of these events were found in 'obvious' FBs or KBs for the locations mentioned. Maybe they're in filials of these locations, or maybe some events like the marriages were civil? Birth/baptism of my GGF Michael Gruber b. about 1825, possibly from the Ittebe or Pardan areas. He's not in the Pardan FB of church index. Local history claims he was from Alsace, but he was too young for those mid 1700s migrations to Hungary, as in the Stader books; maybe they meant his ancestors were from there? Marriage of my GGPs Michael Gruber (as above), to Anna Wagner b. 1841 in Pardan. Marriage possibly in the late 1860s in Pardan, after which, and where, they had most of their kids. Their marriage isn't in the Pardan FB or church index since marriages apparently only go to 1835. They died in Georgeshausen in 1901 and 1902. Marriage of my GPs Anton Gruber (last kid of my above GGPs) b. 1881 in Georgeshausen, to Eva Heinrich b. 1881 in Setschanfeld. Local history claims they married in 1905, one would think in the Georgeshausen/Setschanfeld/Gross Gaj/Zichydorf area, but their marriage isn't in the Gross Gaj/Zichydorf FBs or KBs. I have what looks like a studio photo of them taken in then Versecz, likely about the time they married in 1905, but their marriage isn't found there either. They emigrated as married to Canada in 1906 with no kids. Marriage of Michael Gruber (jr., another son of my above GGPs) b. 1875 in Pardan, to Margaretha Schmidt b. 1877 in Setschan. They likely married in about the late 1890s before emigrating as married to Canada in 1903 with no kids. The Setchan FB mentions a questionable marriage (oo?) of Margaretha but it doesn't say to who, when or where. There's also an infant death Anna (b. 1898, d. 1899) in Setschan. Maybe Anna was illegitimate, so the father isn't listed? Any help/guidance on these events is appreciated. Thx ... John. <==== As a reminder to all List members: Please, send your posts as Plain Text, not “Rich Text” or copy/pasted from a Word or other program that formats text. 3. I believe the mystery has been solved!  Thanks so much to Lothar Renard and Cathy Teufel O'Neill for both giving information and scans that pointed to my Peter Wind and wife relocating and dying in Neubeschenowa.  This town was a mere 51.3km/31.9 miles from Gross Sanktnikolas, where his son Michael Wind eventually settled. For some reason, in my years of hunting for elusive Peter Wind, I had never searched towns that far south.  So, now I need to educate myself on the history of Neubeschenowa.  Again the fabulous Banat list has provided information to break down that brick wall!! If anyone needs ancestor information from Gross Sanktnikolas.....depending on the years, I probably have it! Warmest regards, Janet Wind Nixon Message: 1   Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2018 22:43:22 +0000 (UTC) From: Nixon Janet <janealogy@yahoo.com> To: "banat@rootsweb.com" <banat@rootsweb.com> Subject: [BANAT-L] WIND in Gross Sanktnikolas ~ Roll Call Message-ID: <2133970580.886375.1516315402698@mail.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 This list has been a great boon to my research since I joined in 1997.? 3. Have you tried the Schlafkreutzerungen? This was a list of people who were already settled and were paid to take in immigrants while their houses were built. It also lists the new immigrants who were taken in. I have not looked at this for a long time, so I don't remember much detail. I viewed it on microfilm from the Mormon FHL. I expect that it is probably online now. 2. Banat List Admin
    3. Hello fellow List Members: I wanted to share the latest information regarding the status of the Banat List and the scheme presented by Ancestry regarding the revival of the archive search features. First priority is being given to bringing back the Hosted Websites (there are literally thousands of them). Ancestry will be bringing them back “a few hundred at a time” scanning the content to make sure there are no security issues. Next, will be the Family Trees/WorldConnect service, which allows people to upload GEDCOM family files for others to see. This portion of the service is currently under review, and will be brought back as a ‘read-only’ service in a month or so. The ability to upload new GEDCOM files will be added in the months afterwards. Finally, Ancestry will focus on bringing back the archival search features to the Mailing Lists once WorldConnect is fully operational. So, it will likely be many months before this service is restored. Should Ancestry determine that they cannot or will not return the searchable features, the historical Banat List information will not be totally lost. I made a complete back-up of the Banat List archives in November, 2017 - they are stored locally on my system. So, if the List is “re-set” and the archives are not brought back by Ancestry, the data won’t be totally lost. I will continue to monitor the status of the archival search feature, and update the List with information from Ancestry regarding any updates to the availability of the search and threaded features. This helps others who may be working on the same family lines to connect and share information.  You may even find a cousin! Some guidelines: - Keep it brief - list the surname (and a few spelling variations) along with the village or villages where your ancestors lived.  - Identifying a specific village increases the chances that you’ll get a response, particularly if you are working on a common surname like SCHMIDT. - Don’t post all the details of your entire Banat family tree.  —Karen ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BANAT-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
