    3. Hello! It is now official, the next Mt. Angel Oktoberfest is going to be September 16-19th 2010, and of course our Mt. Angel conference will be during the same time: http://www.oktoberfest.org/ It is only now that I realize that my name was not on the Mt. Angel List, as I had to be in Europe during that time. So I have missed all your feedback. It might be a good idea to Cc the feedback to the Banat-List also, so others who are planning to join us next time will be informed about your impressions. Please let us others who were not lucky to have been there this year know what went well at last meeting and also how you would like to help us plan the next Treffen. Thanks, Rosina www.hrastovac.net

I didn't know if there was a book published for Gertinosch. When you said that "the Jung family is from 1911", does that mean that you do not have any information on Jungs prior to 1911??? If this is true, I don' t think you can help me. I will give you my story, none the less :) I would LOVE to find a birth record for my ggrandparents, because I have so much conflicting information that we are now considering the possibility that my ggrandfather may have had 2 different families at the same time. We always thought that my ggrandfathers name was William Schirmang, after his father Wilhelm Schirmang. (b: ab 1870) It was a surprise to find that his name was Antal on all the children's birth records. This was surprising because he had a brother named Antal who was born in 1875. Both state Sarafol as their birthplace. Anton #1 and Rosa are my ggrandparents. Anton #2 and Marianna is my ggrandfathers brother (or is it) and wife. When the birth records of the children of Anton #1 and Antal #2 are examined carefully, the signatures of both Anton's are very similar. Our family lore states that Wm. (Antal #1) died in an industrial accident at the time of his last child's birth in 1903. Timeline: Anton #1 had 4 children between St. Hubert and Kathreinfeld. 8/1892, 6/1895, 7/1896 and 6/1899. Anton #2 has 1st child 1/1900 (birth record has ligitimate crossed out and natural written instead.) Anton #1 has 5th child 1/1901 (dies at 2 mo.) Anton #2 has 2nd child 3/1902 (birth record has ligitimate crossed out and natural written instead.) stillborn. Anton #1 has 6th and last child 5/1903 (father absent at birth, states he was in Katalinfalva.) Anton #1 dies (no records for this, just family lore) 1903 Anton #2 has 3rd child 7/1903 (Father absent at birth. Child is recorded under mother's maiden name and no father mentioned on orig form. In margin, added later, Anton #2 declares child as his and is amended to be his 'natural' child.) Anton #2 marries Marianna 3/1905 (after having 3 children) Anton #2 and wife immigrate to US 4/1905 (without children) Anton #2 and wife have 3 children in US 1905, 1908 and 1910. Anton #1's wife immigrates to US 1910 Anton #2 and family take trip to Hungary to bring back 1st two children. 1911 Anton #1's children immigrate 1912 I am very interested in finding my ggrandparents marriage record. I think it may tell us some valuable information. I am also very interested in learning more about the Jung side of the family. We know very little. Rosa b: 12 Mar 1869 had a brother named Joseph b: 25 Jan 1867 both in Gyertyamos, Hungary and perhaps a brother named Wilfur. I have no documentation on the following: Her parents: father-Peter, mother Anna Willwert I will appreciate any bits of information that you can share with me. I have many missing pieces yet. 3. Peggy, I'm afraid there is no Family Book for Gertianosch yet and I don't know if one is being planned for the village. I have an old copy of the Gertianosch Heimatbuch by Michael Mettler which is very informative about the village but it doesn't give individual family information, only lists of names (including JUNG) who, for example, were living in the village in 1935 or who died in the two wars or were the first settlers. Good luck in your search! 2. Jerry Jacobs
    3. Annemarie, I am responding directly to you and copying the Banat list on your Gasko question [thanks, Dave]. No need to excuse your English; it is far better than I could do in Deutsch. I am still pursuing Gasko research, but I have not been as active as I had been in the past. My Gasko line is somewhat similar to part of yours. My great-grandfather, Nicholas Gasko was born in 1862 in Pardan, married about 1884, likely in Temesvar, and came to the U.S. in 1907. He originally was in New York City, but had relocated to Detroit by 1920 to work in the auto business. A number of his descendents [myself & my cousins] are still in the Detroit area and still involved in the auto business. In the 1903-1930 time period, there were a number of Gasko families in the Wyandotte & Detroit, Michigan area. Wyandotte is on the Detroit River about 15 miles southwest of Detroit. Most of these Gasko families were clearly from Pardan. By 1920/1930, a number of the Wyandotte Gasko's had relocated from Wyandotte to Detroit. Coincidently, a lot of them were living within a 3-4 block area on the east side of Detroit. I am convinced these Gasko families are related, probably back in Pardan. Unfortunately, I have been able to prove this so far. Using ship manifests, census & marriage records, I have put together as much as I can on the various Detroit area Gasko families and have posted it online in my RootsWeb WorldConnect data. Here is a link: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=jacobsdata&re cno=3096 Other surnames connected to these Gasko's include: Bader, Bayer, Baumann, Baumstark, Csesztanevics, Graber, Grebeldinger, Harnick, Klupp, Malik, Moll, Redinger, Schwartz, Senft, Sternischer, Tisch, Troscany, Vanek, Wilhelm/Wischniewsky, Wunschel. Unfortunately, I have not yet found any information on any of your Gasko - Herr family. Would you have any additional info that you could provide such as: Did the Herr - Elsabetha Gasko marriage take place before or after she came to the U.S? Are you aware of the names of any other of your Gasko's who came to the U.S.? Any other clues you might have? I will help as much as I can with your Gasko family, If they came to the Detroit area, I believe there is a connction. She is my great grandmother, married to Konrad HEH / Hoh / Hob and based on the age of their eldest child she may have been born in the 1860 range, give or take. Their family ultimately wound up in Ernsthausen, as told by my grandfather, but I have been unable to find them in any Banat records. Many many thanks! 1. [BANAT-L] Updates on "Forgotten Genocide" Documentary
    2. Rosina T Schmidt
    3. The Forgotten Genocide Memories of a painful secret held for over fifty years are now finally being brought to light. The Forgotten Genocide is an in-depth, feature length documentary that examines the suffering put upon ethnic Germans living behind the iron curtain. Through interviews with survivors and examinations of relics of the era, the students of St. Louis Community College-Meramec aim to preserve the memory of this sad period in human history, and hopefully give peace to the almost 15 million souls lost. Hello, For those of you who are following our progress, I would like to let you know that we have set up a new email account for the project. seetheforgottengenocide@gmail.com is the address we will soon be sending updates from. Also, we have a new member to our team. His name is Adam, and he will be taking over our public communications when I transfer to a new school in January. I will still be taking part in the project, but Adam will be in charge of the weekly updates. This past week we have been working in various areas of production. Emily, who has experience in film projects, has been put in charge of shooting some of the footage for the documentary. She has done a great job using the resources available to her. This included, among other things, an extremely old house that one of her friends recently purchased. With our project being self-sustaining, with no outside budget, resourcefulness like Emily's in her filming is what makes this production possible. It is also very rewarding to find ways to overcome the obstacles that arise (as they do in any project of this size). Everyone in our group is determined to successfully tell this story. We are close to finding a musical score to accompany the film, and as always, editing of the footage continues. We welcome any questions, comments, or suggestions. Sincerely, Sarah Marino

    1. [BANAT-L] WG: [WZ-L] FAMILIA AUSTRIA - neue Datenbank Hochzeitsindex vor 1784 imNetz
    2. L.Falzboden
