    1. [BANAT-L] Need help with Roszler/Roesler Family
    2. I am trying to help someone find their family. Listed below is the pertinent information I have found. I would appreciate any help anyone can give. Katalin Roszler , age 33 (maiden name was Urich) (probably born in 1869) (with children Valentin and Istvan) arrived 21 May, 1906 on the Pannonia from Fiume to Ellis Island. Joined husband, Ignatz Roszler in Steelton, PA (couldn't find immigration record of Ignatz Roszler). Josef Roszler, age 30 (probably born in 1883) arrived 30 Sep, 1912 on the Lapland from Antwerp to Ellis Island. Came with wife Anna, age 28. Pretty sure Josef is the brother of Ignatz Roszler. Josef is living with Katalin Roszler (listed as brother-in-law) in the 1920 census, likely soon after the death of Ignatz. In 1930 census, he is listed as Joseph Roessler. I believe this immigration record says that Josef's mother was Anna Roszler, destined for Cincinnati, OH. Josef gives last residence as Versecs, Hungary, which could be the one in the Banat. Josef gave home of mother as O. Moldove or something similar. Katalin gave last place of residence also as O. Moldove. I don't think this was Moldavia, as Josef gave his home as Hungary. Also, in some census records, the mother tongue was given as German. Thank you, Willy Istvan

    3. Betty, I have looked up Kotzian in the following villages but found no Valentin. Lenauheim, Alexanderhausen, Klein Betschkerek . Also there are Kotzian from these other villages but I cannot look up. Johannisfeld, Bogarosch, and Gross Kikinda. There seems to be a lot of them from Bogarosch, so if you can find someone with this book you might find him. Good luck, Harold ----- Original Message ----- From: Betty Mauro<mailto:fmauro@webtv.net> To: BANAT-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:BANAT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 31, 2009 10:17 AM Subject: [BANAT-L] Kotzian I am trying to locate the name of the town for a Valentin Kotzian. So many of the Molidorf residents died in Gakowa after the Molidorf camp was shut down. "Memorial for the survivors of the Death Camp Gakowo. We can forgive but not forget. May this symbol of the faith and peace dwell in our hearts, because the strength to bear our pain comes only from within. HERE REST OUR FELLOW DONAUSCHWABEN CITIZENS. THEY WILL FOREVER BE IN OUR HEARTS. WITH THE ERECTION OF THIS CROSS WE REMEMBER THEM WITH DIGNITY AND REVERENCE! THE DONAUSCHWABEN ARE DESCENDED FROM THE COLONISTS WHO WERE SETTLED IN THE PANNONIAN BASIN BY THE HABSBURGS IN THE 18TH CENTURY. THE GAKOWO DEATH CAMP EXISTED FROM MARCH 1945 UNTIL JANUARY 1948"

    3. Gedenk- und Ehrenmal für unsere Toten Eva Petto Memorial and Cenotaph for our Departed Translated by John Michels Twenty-five years ago the Home Village Association (HOG) of India (Indjija) had a monument erected in the cemetery of Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen to commemorate and honor their departed. On July 7, 1984 it was dedicated by Rev. Martin Robert Botz and Rev. Lukas, the pastor of Stuttgart-Rot. Dr Valentine Oberkersch (†2004), the first chairman of the India HOG at that time, was able to welcome to the dedication celebration honored guests from the State Ministry Helmut Haun, the Landtag Assembly Member Dr. Marianne Schultz-Hector, the first mayor of the regional capital city Stuttgart Dr. Rolf Thieringer, the District Director of Zuffenhausen Wolfgang Meyle, the mayor of the Gerlingen Albrecht Sellner, the town council members Ruth Bockmann and Werner Frech, the district advisors fellow countrymen Adam Krämer und Otto Ziegler, the current president of the Landsmannschaft der Donauschwaben aus Jugoslawien Christian Brücker, the representatives of the associated Home Village Groups and about 400 India (Indjija) countrymen from Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland and also from Australia, overseas and Yugoslavia. Regional Chairman Wolfgang Meyle said”The Honor and Memorial monument that we dedicate today calls to memory the deceased members in the old Homeland and all of their dead, those who will not be forgotten, and those who should not be forgotten. May this be a place where former members of the community of India will gladly and often find their way.” The president of the Landsmannschaft Christian Brücker stated: “I know well what moves you in these serious times, here in this cemetery, where the greatest son or your homeland community Dr. Stefan Kraft, and more than 300 India (Indjija) countrymen have found their last resting place.” He asked: “What should the stone mean? It has much to say to us of the present time and to our descendents; as this monument is a sign of the fidelity to our dead, exactly like those in the place where they have died. It is a commitment to the history of the Donauschwaben, a sign of solidarity with our ancestors, who established the civilization there in the Danube region. And if cemeteries are destroyed, as in India, the trace of this achievement will not be erased from history.” To conclude the ceremonies, the first wreath was laid on the Memorial by Dr. Valentin Oberkersch (†2004), Fritz Eichinger (†2005) und Ignatz Stabl (†2007) to the music of ”Ich hatt’ einen Kameraden.” The design for this Memorial Monument done by our fellow India Countryman Dipl.- Ing. Walter Speer (†2007).
