    3. Bonsoir Cathy, I am very interested; I am a frequent user of FB of "french villages" in Banat, looking for my cousins there (GRIFFATON, LEFORT, GUENARDE, HAMANT, LAURENT, ADAM, VILLER, REGNIER, DEHAND, etc...) But, as I don't speak german (and I do have a bad english), these abbreviations are always difficult for me. Thanks in advance, Daniel HILAIRE Bordeaux PS : Is your name with french origin ? PS2 : At the moment I am working in Bishkek where usually there is a lot of snow during winter; but nothing this year ! > Date: Wed, 24 Feb 2010 21:54:17 -0800 > From: cjdeschu@yahoo.com > To: banat@rootsweb.com > Subject: [BANAT-L] abbreviations and symbols > > Over the years, I've developed (with lots of help) a sort of glossary of Banat abbreviations and symbols. 3. Thanks Fran for this information ... especially about the danger for the storks when they nest in Electric line poles -- well, build their nests at the top of the poles. An interesting situation exists where I live on the Jersey Shore. Before the advent of satellites, etc. long distance telephone lines were laid on the floor of the ocean. Most of these Long Lines came into an area called Ocean Gate, New Jersey. Years ago, AT&T deeded the property to the town as they no longer needed it for telecommunication. However, they never removed the telephone poles. Some long time residents call it jokingly a telephone pole farm -- there are dozens of poles. It looks comical and some of us would like to remove the poles -- but the town does not want to pay for that removal. So the farm stands as it is ..... and these poles have become nesting areas for Ospreys. However, since these birds are territorial in nature they really don't need all those poles -- it would be sufficient to leave a reasonable number for their nesting purposes. It is too bad that in Europe the power companies do not erect poles that would attract the storks for nesting purposes .... that way it is more likely the electric line poles would not be disturbed and the birds would be safer. Probably would be less expensive for the power companies to do this too -- rather than have to repair any damage done by the storks .... and the people who love these birds would be happier too. 3. Since no one else seems to have commented, it was customary for men to be the witnesses at a marriage rather than our current custom of a man and a woman. Many times the honor of being witness to the marriage was given to the godfathers of the groom and the bride. I have seen this happen often when I read the records for my family in Glogowatz. Further, when children were born to the marriage, it was also customary for the child to be named for the his/her godparent. If that child died, the name would be used again for another child if that person was the godparent again. Angel this September 16th-19th as well. Our Webmaster did not have the opportunity yet to update our www.dsheritage.com website, unfortunately, but the location will be the same and the program will have similar content. Go ahead and book your rooms at Keizer Renaissance Inn by mentioning the 'Danube Swabian' or 'Banat' Group. Our Danube Swabian conference is not a part of Mt. Angel's Oktoberfest celebrations, but our worthy 'fathers' chose this location for our yearly meeting, so we would have the opportunity to explore a real, old-fashioned German style fall festival at the same time. Am glad you are planning to attend. Rosina www.hrastovac.net ----- Original Message ----- From: hiriseguy@email.com I bet you can give me the details on the Mt Angel meeting this year. 2. I am PC as the ads say. I found stashed away a purchased copy of Legacy, password and all. Getting old and forgetful I guess. When I moved to Windows 7 last Fall I only kept Family Origins. Going to give Legacy a try as long as I seem to have bought it already. 3. This is another possible email address for Laura McCollum: mccollumlaura@hotmail.com . KRÄMER/KRAEMER/KREMER also appear in the Hatzfeld Familienbuch. The town of Hatzfeld was settled in 1766, earlier than some of the other villages. The names also exist in Deutsch Zerne. HENIKA also exists in Hatzfeld and Deutsch Zerne. Let me know if you would like a lookup in the Hatzfeld Familienbuch. 1. [BANAT-L] info on Mt. Angel conference Sep. 16-19th
    2. Rosina T Schmidt
    3. Hello Leah, Hello Dick, It will be a pleasure to meet you at Mt. How, when, lodging etc. It would be nice to meet you, Dave Dreyer and all. Dick Barak St Francis, MN

    3. Hello Leah, Of course the best event at Mt. Angel for us Donauschwaben is our conference! However, if your escort would rather enjoy the towns festivities, there is much to do and see at Mt. Angel's Octoberfest besides the Beer Halls: Thursday: http://www.mtangel.org/ofestfiles/thursday.html Friday: http://www.mtangel.org/ofestfiles/friday.html Saturday: http://www.mtangel.org/ofestfiles/saturday.html Sunday: http://www.mtangel.org/ofestfiles/sunday.html Hope you can join us! Rosina www.hrastovac.net Rosina - Tell me a little about what goes on at Mt. Angel. I have lived here for years and never knew that there was anything more to Octoberfest then drinking - shame on me. I have just found that my relatives were part of the danube-schwabe and want to learn more. Thanks Leah Ott
