But the Hatzfeld FB only has records through 1866, so his birth wouldn't be listed there! But possibly his parents could be listed there with a variant spelling? I took a quick look, but didn't see anything that fit. Have you seen any particular variants of the name? Bill K. In a message dated 3/4/2010 6:41:26 A.M. Human Rights Award 2009 by the Volksgruppe der Donauschwaben is awarded to Dr. Brigitte Neary of the University of South Carolina In Spartanburg, USA. Dr. Brigitte Neary is a German-American. Her father is a Donauschwab from Indjija in Syrmia. Donautal-Magazine wrote: "The Award Committee of the Volksgruppe der Donauschwaben e. V. has unanimously decided to honor Prof. Dr. Brigitte Neary of the University of South Carolina in Spartanburg USA with the Humans Rights Prize 2009 of the Volksgruppe der Donauschwaben e. V. The professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies is receiving the prize for her book “Women and the Expulsion”. The Donauschwaben Volksgruppe thereby acknowledges that in her book Dr. Brigitte Neary presents a fundamental work about the problems of women during and after the Second World War, as millions of people were expelled from their homeland. In this way she spotlights on both sides off the Atlantic the sociological, psychological, historical and legal aspects of this form of “ethnic cleansing” Her books “Frauen und Vertreibung” (Ares Verlag 200l8) and in the English language title ”Voices of Loss and Courage (Picton Press 2009) leads to further important questions and opens the way to further research into this subject area." Hello Mt. Angel Travelers, You will be delighted to hear that at our upcoming Danube Swabian conference this September Ann Morison's "The forgotten Genocide" will be presented. There is also a possibility that Ann herself might join us, but we will know for sure closer to the date. This for sure would be a great honour to us. 'The forgotten Genocide' DVD's will also be available for purchase at our Treffen. Hope you can join us! Rosina www.hrastovac.net P.S. for room reservation: http://www.keizerrenaissanceinn.com/
Thank you for this. Although difficult to read, it is important for us as human beings to remember what we are capable of doing to one another, and to try to prevent similar horrors. But unfortunately it happens more often than we may want to admit. Consider also the so-called "comfort women" provided to Japanese soldiers during WWII, and rape of women during the Bosnian war. And while I would like to think it is not, sexual abuse of women is happening in current day wars as well. -----Original Message----- From: banat-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:banat-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Rosina T Schmidt Sent: Monday, March 01, 2010 8:45 PM To: Banat@rootsweb.com Subject: [BANAT-L] Gabriele Köp's Leidensweg This article is in the Spiegel magazine about an ethnic German 15 year old girl fleeing ahead of the Red Army towards West. - Not for faint of heart. The Chicago Banaters came through in a most impressive way with the necessary information to solve Uwe's problem. I am encouraged by these results to post several similar problems which have been sitting in my in-box for awhile. Perhaps, there are list subscribers who have some insight to a solution of these additional problems. First problem; Helwig Lowasz is looking for decendents of Halsdorfers who were from Mortizfeld/Banat and who settled in Buffalo NY. She would also be interested in any family trees of Halsdorfers which may have been compiled. Her message is posted below. Mit freundlichen Grüssen aus dem Westerwald im Rheinland- Hedwig Lowasz Second Problem Ruediger Langermann is looking for decendents of Christian Noxel, wife Mena, who are in the 1861 Canadian census, living in Welland Canada.
