Frank Schmidt is celebrating his 88th Birthday today. A lunch is planned on April 10, at noon, at the Donau Schwaben Club in Scarborough, Toronto. He is one of the rare individuals who persevered in collecting & publishing the history of the DS even though he was constantly under criticism & pressure from all sides. We owe him a lot of gratitude for all his life-long efforts....which also included the translating into english of the book: In the Claws of the Red Dragon. Without Frank we would never have had this material available in english. e-mail: frankheim@symaptico.ca

For Charles Re Blumenthal Pamphlet My father's family ( Peter Gall ) were located in Blumenthal. He immigrated to Orkney Saskatchewan Canada in 1924 when he was 21 to avoid serving in the Romanian Military. His eldest sister Maria followed a few years later. I have very little information on Blumenthal and would appreciate all that is available. Peter J Gall, 964 Renfrew Bay, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3N 1K6. In 2011 I will be traveling to Hungary, Croatia, and Romania for genealogical research. I have had some help with Croatia and I thank those people. Anyone have contacts or suggestions for help in Temesvar and Buzias Romania and Somagyharsagy Hungary? Looking for contact who can do some preliminary research and someone I can met up with in 2011 to help in those Hungarian and Romanian areas? Thanks

Frohe Ostern everyone, Nick has provide me with the German version of the poem. Wondering if anyone out there has the time and desire to translate it for us all. I'm sure we would all appreciate it. Mary Ann From: ntullius@sympatico.ca To: mahueser@hotmail.com Subject: Peter Jung Poem Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2010 15:22:44 -0400 Mary Ann, Here is a more complete version, from the book “Die Donauschwaben” by Anton Valentin (München 1959). Dear Liz, The quote you provide is totally inaccurate. There were perhaps fifteen million persons involved in the expulsions ordered at Potsdam by the Big Three in 1945 that affected German speaking populations in Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary of whom some two million died in the "humane transfer of populations" ordered at Potsdam. The experience of the Danube Swabians in Yugoslavians was in addition to that which unfortunately is not explained in The Forgotten Genocide which focuses almost exclusively on Yugoslavia except for a few oblique references to East Prussia and Czechoslovakia in passing. It is important that we got our facts straight.
