There are 3 pages of Hecks in the Stanischitz OSB. The closest I could come for a Katharina born in 1853 is: Katharina Heck *8.01.1855 Daughter of Josef Heck * 24.11.1804 in Stanischitz and Katharina Heichele *25.12.1803 in Stanischitz. If you believe this is your Katharina please let me know and I will send the rest of that family information. I did not find the name Schestak listed. Hello Mramorak researchers, Jaroslaw Ronek of Poland is looking for his great-grandmother ELISABETH Felber, nee HARTMANN, ev., born in Mramorak on 4th of March 1898 and died in 1980 in Banja Luka, Bosnia. The family lived in Schutzberg (Glogovac), Bosnia until 1942 when they were sent in exile to what is now Poland. If you could help with his Mramorak family, please get in contact with Jaroslaw at ron@mediacity.pl or via myself. Thanks, Rosina www.hrastovac.net ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: jaro <ron@mediacity.pl> Dear Madam, I am living in Warsaw, Poland, and my roots on the mother side are Bosnian and German. I have very difficult task to find out where my family came from, since all the witnesses already died. I know they were Germans living in Schutzenberg (Glogovac) close to Prnjavor, and moved to Prnjavor, and were there on exile since 1942, like all Germans living there. My groundgroung mother was Elisabeth Felber, primo voto Hartmann – she was protestant, born in Mramorak, opstina Pancevo/Kovin, Vojevodina, on March 4, 1898, died in 30.11.1980 w Banja Luka. Her father was Christian Hartmann, a catholic, and mother Margarethe primo voto Zimmermann, a protestant. Her husband was Ladislav Felber – a catholic from a village Lukać, opstina Virovitica, close to croatian-hungarian border, born on 26.09.1892, died on 15.11.1928r. in Prnajov. His parents were Ivan Felber and Agatha primo voto Premus. Maybe you could give me a clue how to find some information about my family? With best regards, Jaroslaw Ronek

To all on the list: This presentation referred to by Rosina about the expulsion of ethnic Germans after World War II is a must-read for everyone. It is easy to understand. If you have been confused about "who was sent where" and "why," this can clarify those questions, and you will realize how far-reaching, geographically and historically, this horror was. As Rosina suggests, I'll be sure it is included with my family's genealogical information. Hello All, I was wondering if anyone had the Stefansfeld Familienbuch and would be willing to look up a couple for me? I am looking for the marriage of Josef Harnacker and Maria Avender, who were both from Stephansfeld, and any children they may have had while living in the town. Three of their children (Barbara - born 1887 in Stefansfeld, Jakob - born 1890 in Setschanfeld, Anna - born 1892 in Stefansfeld) married in Setschanfeld, but I have not been able to find any other records for any other children. They supposedly had a daughter who married a man named Glass, but I have not been able to find any record of this. They supposedly immigrated to Canada before WWII. Their son, Jakob Harnacker, married Katharina Prunkl in Setschanfeld and they had a daughter named Susanne. After Susanne married in 1932 and immigrated to the US soon after. They had one son, Adam, in 1935. Susanna died a few years later in 1945, when Adam was only 10 years old. I was talking to him the other day and he said that after his mother died, his father forbade him and everyone else from ever speaking of her and took all her pictures away. He was able to find one pictures over the years, but never knew anything about his mother's family. Anyway it tugged at my heartstrings and I just thought I'd see if I could find out more information on his family for him. In any case if anyone would be able to look for me, I would appreciate it so much!! Thanks much, Amy Nichols
Excellent article Rosina. Another recent example of forcing enemies together in one country is Iraq. The British drew a line on a map forcing the Kurds, Sunnis and Shias to live together. Saddam's brutality kept the lid on for a while, but, with him gone, it is clear that they do not want to live together. But we westerners, in our wisdom, continue to try to force them. Enough politics. Hi Dar, The following info on Oppowa is from the Village Index on the GenealogyNet web site -- a great resource. It looks like it always had it's own parish, but I do not know if there is a Familienbuch for Koenigsdorf/Oppowa. The LDS did microfilm some of the church records, but the dates are prior to the date you are looking for, so probably won't be much help until you can trace back one more generation. http://www2.genealogy.net/reg/ESE/ds_idx.htm Sorry I can't be more helpful, --Karen Königsdorf Village Names: German: Königsdorf, Oppowa Official: Opovo Hungarian: Opava Spelling and/or dialect variants: Location: Country: Yugoslavia 40km S of Großbetschkerek Postal Code: 26264 Railroad station: Genealogical Records: Village name in FHL records: Koenigsdorf, Oppowa, Opava Church records available at FHL: Christenings 1766-1872, Marriages 1766-1872, Deaths 1766-1872 FHL Microfilm Nr. 1190408, 1271585 On Jun 7, 2010, at 11:18 AM, darkaso@yahoo.com wrote: > Hi List, > > Can anyone tell me which Familybook or Parish Opava/Oppowa/ > Konigsdorf is associated with? Hi List, Can anyone tell me which Familybook or Parish Opava/Oppowa/Konigsdorf is associated with? I am completely brick walled with my Seltsam relatives and looking for any infor on a Josef Seltsam and Marx Seltsam. Marx Seltsams Passport Application says that he was born in Opava in 1881 and I believe that Josef is his father. I do not know where Joseph is from but his parents names are Johann and Anna Gunther. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks Dar

Hello Donauschwaben, Gary B. Cohen has made a presentation to the German Bohemian Heritage Society at New Ulm Minnesota about the Expulsion after WW2. This is also of great importance to us, Danube Swabians, and it might be a good idea for everyone who is leaving genealogical information to their family to print this out and attach it to it as historical background. The awareness of a right to his/her homeland should develop as part of our human rights. http://www.cas.umn.edu/assets/pdf/GerExpellee.pdf See you at Mt. Angel in September! Rosina www.hrastovac.net
I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can look for birth/marriage/death records for Hungarian villages/towns in the county of Timis or Temes? I am researching my brick wall my GGrandmother Emma Schuchetka born 6/12/1893 in Klein Czemla, Hungary. She immigrated in to the US via Philadelphia, PA in 1912. She met he sister Rosalie and her brother in law Ferencz Kitzinger. Emma parents were Joseph Schuchetka and Rosa Sherk. She had a brother names Andras Szuchetka who lived in Versecz,Hungary. My GGrandfather was Janos Szucs. He was in the Hungaian Army before leaving and traveling around Europe then finally immigrating to the US in for the last time in 1912. I am searching for any information on my GGrandmother Emma and her family. She apparently came from upper class family, ran away and became a maid before immigrating to the US. She spoke high German, as she was German but born in Hungary. I am searching for her family. Any birth, marriage or death records of her family members etc. Where can I look, what books would be of help, where can I buy them or if anyone has one can they research this for me? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Sandra
Dave: Thank you for the update on the Grundhauser's. Peter Goetz/Magdalena Grundhauser were my grandparents. I wish I could read german so I would know what the gentleman is saying who sent the german message. I read all the emails coming through hoping to see something on my maternal grandmother's heritage. She was a Schmidt married to Mathias Bayer. Don't have any relatives close that have information. Dave Dreyer is working on that Family Book while Henry Fischer hopes to have the last of his Trilogy published by September. Glen Schwartz and Ray Borshowa are on their way home from visiting not only Banat but also Hofbr?uhaus in Munich and we shall hear all about it in Mt. Angel.
