For what it is worth: I was curious about the alleged ban of marriages during Lent and Advent so I asked my Pastor today. He said that marriages were banned during Lent by Roman Catholic Canons from 1917 through 1983. As I asked him this out of the blue, he was not as sure about Advent: "Not so much Advent". I would assume that 'emergency' marriages could take place. I do not know what the regs were prior to 1917 but I would assume they were permitted during Lent and Advent if it was not part of the Canons until 1917. Ed.

In the Dolatz family book I find Franziska with Nikolaus Schneider as the mother of 3 illegitimate kids born 1884 to 1888 in Gier(different than the kids born in Setschan). Hi Kathy, I looked at the PDF through my browser and it was definitely distorted when you tried to read the names. For some reason I decided to try downloading it and open it Adobe Reader. At 100 and at least up to 150% the text is very readable. Someone did an excellent job of creating a map that is very detailed and readable! The actual document size is 37x26 inches. Also interesting, I never realized that there would be such a substantial difference between viewing a PDF in a browser (Firefox) and Adobe Reader! Just did another experiment. The actual document size is 37x26 inches and I tried printing a page. A section came out quite readable on my laser printer. I selected print Poster and it must have printed 15 pages all very readable. My suggestion is if you want to save and send just a section of the map is to use a product called Snagit. Been using it to capture screen or sections of images for years. Works great. If you want me to snag a section of the map let me know the house numbers you are interested in. After reading this, your first email, I believe some information we have is incorrect. First let me say - Lorenz Angner is not directly related to me but he was married to Marion Burger. Marion was my grandmother's sister and only sibling. My grandmother was Anna M. Burger, both born 1882 in Lowrin. Their father was Andreas (sp) Andrew Burger and their mother was Johanna Forques, also both from Lowrin. Anna M. Burger married Johann Isler from Lowrin in 1904. In 1906, they arrived in the US with their daughter, Magdalen age 2. They had a second daughter, Teresa born in 1908, and a third daughter, Anna, born in 1910. At this time Johann (my grandfather) was working on a farm in Deans, NJ. This is information I picked up from David Dryer's Ship List: Angner Lorenz - Age 28 from Lowrin (born in Neusiedel). Wed-Feb. 17, 1909 to Deans, NJ. Wife Maria (Marian) age 22 and daughter Franziska age 3. Going to join brother-in-law Johann Islem (Isler). My grandparents often spoke of her sister Marian and her husband Lorenz coming to America to work but they did stay. If I were not sure of the Deans, NJ connection, I would say that I had the wrong family. My grandfather moved to Philadelphia soon after and bought a store front property and began selling milk by the ladles! (no pasteurization at that time). This evolved into a regular milk delivery business but required nightly scrubbing of milk bottles and refilling them. Easy to remember as it is tax day. That started me wondering about the last frost date in the Banat area and maybe if that tied into Lent. As Lent is starting up, so is planting time when you don't want to get married and don't have the time to party. After an October engagement the Catholic Church set out rules, conferences and conditions that were not met until January and we needed to set a date before Lent. Bummer was the snow storm that my family had to drive through for 90 miles to the church in my wife's home town of Clinton, IA. My Chicago family, most of them, made the trip but were not happy the reception was held at the YWCA and no alcohol could be served. My point is that January is just before Lent, just after Xmas and convenient when you have been waiting months. BTW we are still very happy together.
