    3. My great grand parents moved their entire family from Elemir to ND. My great grand mother was born in Klek which is nearby Elemir. While probably several reasons, the straw that broke the camel's back was mandatory military requirements for males and they had five of age. My great grandmother did not believe in the cause at that time 1908. Two daughters came to St Louis before that and then most of the rest joined there in St. Louis. Some of the older brothers worked in a brick factory in St. Louis, but workers there were sent into hot ovens and many died making repairs. "They pulled another one out again today." After a short time in St Louis, most of the siblings homesteaded for free land in South Dakota and 160 acres each including both daughters sons and parents as land made a significant attraction. My grand father was a mason and worked in ND laying brick for schools at New England for extra spending money. Other siblings brought trades from Hungary and stayed in ND. What was the compelling factor on moving to that area of the U.S. I knew that in the group of friends that my grandparents had they all moved to the big cities of the US such as Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee, and New York. 3. From: [email protected] Sent: ‎Tuesday‎, ‎September‎ ‎30‎, ‎2014 ‎5‎:‎04‎ ‎AM To: Ernst Meinhardt Programmhinweis: ARD (Das Erste) Mittwoch, 1.

    3. Very sad to learn of Susan's passing. She was a HUGE help to me personally when I first started in my research and throughout the years following. Also, after all these years, I never realized she lived in the small town of Croswell, MI. My great-grandparents lived there and were buried there, and I have been there to visit. Had I known she lived there, I definitely would have met her in person. Sorry I missed that opportunity. Rest in peace Susan. There are a few photos that are nice and explanations of celebrations brought from Hungary, that continued in ND. The Clayton library is near the medical center area and for those who may need a break from that, there is a metro train stop about two blocks from the library and also near the medical center. Holocaust memorial is also near the library. PQ Sent from my iPad > On Sep 28, 2014, at 5:44 PM, ddreyer via <[email protected]> wrote: > > Judy, > > Many thanks. 1. [BANAT-L] SZABO, Serbia and Question
    2. Diane Lott via
    3. Benjamin Szabo ( born Szeged) and Agnes Balint ( from Foldeak) were married in Orsova Hungary...but other cities are involved in a really "screwy" way. Their daughter Aurelia (Aranka)Szabo was born in Bazias and by the time we tracked down the birth record....we were found it in Serbia. Aurelia and her husband lived in Temesvar (Temes) which is now Romania...but at the time they lived there...was Hungary. Any ideas that might have taken Benjamin and Agnes from Orsova to Bazias to Temesvar during the late 1800's? What was going on in the country or economically that cause this migration? Thanks for any suggestions.

    3. Hi Dave, According to the Stark County Heritage and Destiny, North Dakota book (page 248) Eva Schmidt was born in 1879 to Nick and Theresa (Hanricker) Schmidt in Ofenetea in Hungary. Eva and Peter Weismann (how last name is spelled in this book) married on August 18, 1900 in Hungary. The books shows Eva's death date as 14 Oct 1964. The book also lists Peter Weismann's mother as Margaret Lang.
