I don't know for fact, but I would suggest that Susan Clarkson would have named her sources in her book. This should tell you where to look. Glenn Schwartz ----- Original Message ----- From: William Schwiegeraht <bswag@yahoo.com> To: banat@rootsweb.com Sent: Sat, 14 Jan 2017 17:19:18 -0000 (GMT) Subject: Re: [BANAT-L] BANAT Digest, Vol 12, Issue 11 Thank you Guenter! I have already located Malberg in modern Germany and learned much about online - one day I plan to visit. I have also been in contact with the parish priest at Kyllburg parish who has tried to locate my family in the archives in Trier, but their records only go back to 1744. >From the Johannisfeld book by Susan Clarkson, I know Peter was my 3x great grandfather. Peter also appears in the Hatzfeld family book (Henz) on pg 756 (#11146), and the childeren's names agree. Peter married Elisabeth Blum in Hatzfeld, and sometime later went to Johannisfeld. On the same page is listed Johann (#11145) and above him is Barbara (#11144). When I first got started in genealogy two years ago, I found them linked in the Johannisfeld family tree record created by Susan Clarkson in Ancestry.com. However, the Hatzfeld book does not prove this, so I am looking for evidence that matches Dr. Clarkson's Ancestry record ( I am sure she would have had that, but my timing was unfortunate). I understand that original registration documents in Vienna may show names, ages, place or origin, and perhaps names of family members travelling ith Johann, and I hope to find positive proof from that. Unfortunately, Susan Clarkson died 3 months before I became interested in genealogy, so I missed my opportunity to ask her for her directly. Also, her Johannisfeld Famliebuch is out of print, but I was lucky to contact her daughter who saved the book (ms-word format) and sent to me on a CD-ROM! So, that is all the evidence I have. I attached my page from the Hatzfeld book and my file which I pulled out Schwiegerath information from the Johannisfeld book. Can you please tell me what you think. The original source in Vienna Hofkammerarchiv is Banater Akten Fasz. 35 rNr. 156, fol. 9 with no more information than you already have. Today Malberg is not anymore on Luxembourg area but in Germany near Kyllburg. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malberg,_Bitburg-Pr%C3%BCm There is a famly book about Kyllburg and surrouning places: http://familysearch.org/search/catalog/1137705 Maybe you find more about your family in this book/DVD. The latest version of the Kyllburg family book is available for members of WGfF only at their online library http://www.wgff-digibib.de/index.php?_n (look for Kyllburg) Albert Schwickerath, Dorfstr. 38, D-54662 Philippsheim added more data extracted from civil records after 1798 Both books have a lot of Schwickerath families but sorry - I could not find your Johann married to Barbara. The note in Susan Clarkson book p 534 about the origin of the Schwickerath family does not say that this family settled in Johannisfeld. My question is: what is your source for the name of the wife Barbara and son Peter? I didn't realize there were Banaters from the western border of Luxembourg and Belgium. I had always thought these Luxembourgers were from the eastern regions, and the areas that fell under Luxembourg long ago, that are now part of Germany (the Bitburg area, etc). In researching my Aron/Arend/Arent line, I found a couple of men in Stader from 'Perl', which I assumed was the Perl that is on the border of Lux/France/Germany. Seeing Richard's mention of 'Perle' below, and seeing it on the border of Lux/Belgium makes me wonder if THAT was the Perl/Perle they were from. My line dead-ends with a Nicholas Aron/Arrent from Luxembourg, but I was never able to definitively identify the village of "Ritteburg" he was listed as being from. I assumed it was either a poorly transcribed "Bitburg" or maybe nearby Rittersdorf. If these Aron's in Stader were actually from Perle (Lux), maybe they are indeed connected to my line somehow, and maybe Ritteburg was a village near there, lost to history. Scott ? ? ? Scott ? ? ? Hi Bob,If you go to this page on Family Search and scroll down, youwill see the microfilm numbers for the Vienna Registration records (BanaterAkten) that can be ordered from the LDS. Be sure to order the correct year. https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/173251?availability=Family%20History%20Library If you do not have a Family History Center in your area, youcan e-mail Family Search and ask what other places are able to order microfilm fromthe LDS. When the LDS Family HistoryCenter in Manhattan closed, for example, I was able to order the film from theNY Genealogical Society without becoming a member. When that closed, Family Search reps told methat I could order the film at the Jewish Genealogical Society. I do not know if this policy has changed, butthere is no harm in asking. I hope this helps. Thank you Guenter! Scott ? ? ? Scott ? ? ? Bill, Johann Schwigerrath ist listed in Wilhelm&Kallbrunner (WK 56/58) on page 56 line 58. Hello all, You’ve all seen a number of :empty” post attempts from John Gruber. After advising him on how to get his email to be accepted and posted, it still failed. So, below is the ext of his post. Please reply to the List as usual. BTW, John’s email is john.gruber_at_sympatico.ca (replace the “_at_" with an ”@“ to activate his email address). ====John’s message==== I'm checking with the Banat and DVHH lists to see if anyone has FBs or church records with Gruber's in them, most likely from the Banat. Specifically, I'm looking for the following 4 events: 1 birth (baptism) and 3 marriages, which have so far been brick walls for me. 1 birth of my GGF Michael Gruber, b. abt. 1825 , possibly in Pardan, but not found in the Pardan FB or church index. 2 Marriage of my GGF Michael Gruber (in 1. above) to my GGM Anna Wagner b. 1841 in Pardan. The marriage was likely in the late 1860s, and expected to be in the Pardan FB or church index, but was not found there. The site (clandata_sytes_dot_net) mentions the marriage but with no date or location info. 3 Marriage of my GF Anton Gruber b. 1881 in Georgshausen to my GM Eva Heinrich b. 1881 in Setschanfeld. Anton is the last kid of Michael and Anna (in 2. above). The marriage was likely in about 1905, and expected to be in the Zichydorf or Gross Gaj FBs, but was not found there. 4 Marriage of Michael Gruber (Jr) b. 1875 in Pardan to Margaretha Schmidt b. 1877 in Setschan. Michael (Jr) and Anton (in 3. above) were brothers, and sons of Michael and Anna (in 2. above). The marriage was likely in about the late 1890s or early 1900s, and expected to also be in the Zichydorf or Gross Gaj FBs, but was not found there. The Setchan FB says that Margaretha married someone (oo?), but it doesn't say who, when or where. The Lenauheim FB refers to a marriage of a Michael Gruber to a Margaretha Gruber, but with no date or location info. The site also mentions the marriage but with no date or location info. To avoid duplicated effort, below I include all I know about these events to date. ______________________________________________________ 1 birth of my GGF Michael Gruber, who died in Georgshausen in 1901 at age 76, so I assume he was born abt. 1825. His birth location is unknown, but a Pardan FB entry for 1 of his infant death kids says he was from Ittebe Ratz, a filial of nearby Pardan. Michael's birth isn't in the Pardan FB nor in the church index (the actual church records are apparently lost). Local family history says that Michael originated from Alsace Province (then in western Germany) but I expect he was too young for the migrations that took place from there to Hungary in about the mid to late 1700s; maybe they meant his ancestors came from Alsace? It's hard to tell since I don't know of any of Michael's ancestors or sibs. A FB or church records that showed a Gruber family with Michael as a kid, would be a breakthru for me. 2 Marriage of my GGF Michael Gruber (in 1. above) to my GGM Anna Wagner b. 1841 in Pardan (as in the Pardan church index). They most likely married in the late 1860s in Pardan since most of their 5 or 6 kids' births are listed after that in the Pardan church index. Their marriage isn't in the Pardan FB nor in the church index. (Michael and Anna later moved to Georgshausen where my GF Anton Gruber was born in 1881, and where they died in 1901 and 1902.) 3 Marriage of my GF Anton Gruber b. 1881 in Georgshausen (as in the Zichydorf baptism records), to my GM Eva Heinrich b. 1881 in Setschanfeld (as in the Gross Gaj baptism records). Anton is the last kid of Michael Gruber and Anna Wagner (in 2. above). I expect Anton and Eva married in about 1905, before they immigrated to Canada in 1906, with no kids; their passenger record says they were married. Logically, the marriage should be in the Zichydorf or Gross Gaj FBs or church records but it wasn't found there. It's also not found in the Sartscha, Setschan, Klek, Lazarfeld, Gross Scham and Werschetz records, nor in many other online FBs. I have a pic of Anton and Eva taken in what looks like a then Versecz studio, I expect in about 1905 at the time they married. So, I recently asked Bene Jozsef from there to check the Werschetz parish records, but he didn't find the marriage. I speculate that since the Anton/Eva marriage isn't in the most obvious church records, they may have had a civil marriage – possible reason being that, as in her Gross Gaj baptism record, Eva is shown as illegitimate; so maybe the church wouldn't marry her? Banat researcher Stasa Cvetkovik has looked in some places for civil marriages but didn't find it. 4 Marriage of Michael Gruber (Jr) b. 1875 (as in the Pardan church index), to Margaretha Schmidt b. 1877 (as in the Setschan FB). Michael (Jr) and Anton (in 3. above) were brothers, and sons of Michael Gruber and Anna Wagner (in 2. above). I expect Michael and Margaretha married in about the late 1890s or early 1900s, before they immigrated to Canada in 1903, with no kids; their passenger record says they were married. The Setchan FB says that Margaretha married someone (oo?), tho it doesn't say who, when or where, but likely in 1897 or earlier, in I expect Setschan, since it also says she had an infant death girl Anna (b. 1898, d. 1899) in Setschan. oo? in the Setchan FB seems to indicate a questionable marriage, maybe because Anna was illegitimate? In the case of illegitimacy, I'm told the father's name wasn't recorded by the church, even if they knew who he was. So, the father could be Michael Gruber (Jr), but I don't know that. The online Lenauheim FB refers to a marriage of a Michael Gruber to a Margaretha Gruber, but with no date or location info., tho the implied location is Lenauheim. It also refers to other Gruber's, relevant ones being Michael's parents and 2 of his sibs in the Zichydorf FB, that I already knew about. Another site also mentions the marriages of Michael and Margaretha Gruber, as well as Michael's parents Michael Gruber and Anna Wagner. But again, there are no dates or locations, or sources of the info. Finally, I note that for some reason Michael and Margaretha married again in 1909 in Canada. Why? Some have suggested that they may have needed proof of marriage for something but lost their papers, so had to marry again. Or, maybe they really weren't married in the Banat, at least not 'legitimately' in the church, or they had a civil marriage (because of a possibly illegitimate daughter Anna in Setschan?) ===end=== With kind regards, David Preston Banat List Administrator === http://www.banatbooks.com http://www.danube-swabians.org http://www.village-records.org http://www.molidorf.com
Hi John! My 4th Great Grandmother is Anna Gruber. She was born in Glogowatz 23 July 1782. She was married to my 4th Great Grandfather, Anton Lowitz. Anna's father was Nikolaus Gruber, born about 1739 in Glogowatz. He was married to my 5th Great Grandmother, M. Magdalena Freer Have not done a lot of research on that line so I am interested in what you may have. Hello to all,I am looking for someone with a copy of Sammelwerk donauschwäbischer Kolonisten who might locate some records for me.My 4x great grandfather, Johann Schwiegerath (or Schwickerath) is cited in the Johannisfeld Family Book (Susan Clarkson) as registering on 19apr1766 in Vienna and I would like to get actual proof of this. He would have been registering with his wife (Barbara??) and at least one child (Peter) who was 2 years old at that time. The town of origin (Malberg, in Bitburg County) is listed as well, but I would eventually like to see the actual records myself to verify this home town and identify any possible relocations before he left for Vienna. I have found a good deal of information on the town of Malberg, but I have not had success locating Johann (born 1731) there. Church records stored in Trier apparently start in 1744. Also, I do not know what the source below (Qu: W/K 5658) means - can anyone help me with that? Here is the cited record from Johannisfeld Family Book; Familie Schwiegerath stammt aus Malberg, Kr. Bitburg,Luxemburg; Johann Schwiegerrath ist am 19.04.1766 in Wien registiert. (Qu: W/K 56/58) The Schwiegerath family came from Malberg, BitburgCounty, Luxembourg. Johann Schwiegerathregistered in Vienna on April 19, 1766 (source: W/K 56/58) Thanks very much!Bill Schwiegeraht
