    1. [BANAT-L] Germans from Luxemburg
    2. Bob, Somewhere on the internet there must be a copy of the German-French linguistic boundary in this area. Of course, it is likely that there is considerable mixture on each side. I agree Stoffel sounds like a German name but Reinhard, in his Triebswetter family books gives a large number of French sounding name equivalents to Stoffel, including Stouflet, Stouffler, stufflet etc. I expect that they came with a French background they were soon entered in the records with a German equivalent but a lot depended on the background of the clerk. Reinhard gives the spitzname of the family in this case “Schmiedschago”. Is that a clue for German? Dave Dreyer From: bobwolf@prodigy.net Sent: Friday, January 20, 2017 1:40 PM To: banat@rootsweb.com Cc: choltzclaw@comcast.net Subject: [BANAT-L] Vienna Registration Thank you to Dave, Bastian, Rudolf and Stacy for getting me on the right track. With your input and information, I have a plan of action and that is starting with a FHL. As it turns out there is one close to me and I plan to visit and try to access the Stader book and/or Banater Akten list. What I am hoping to estavblish is the date and any related information on my paternal grandfather and grandmother four times removed. I know they were born in Alberthausen, Hessen, Germany in 1768 and 1770 respectively and had son in 1789 in Triebswetter, Timis, Rumänien. Their names were Johann Michael Wolf, Maria Ursula Wolf (born Schneider) and son, Josef Adam Wolf. On my maternal side I have the same question. My maternal grandfather, Nikolaus Stoffel four times removed was born in Mamer, Luxemburg in 1766 and died in Sackelhausen, Banat on Mar 28 1789. His wife, Susanna Stoffel (born Moll) was born in Ulmbach, Banat, Rumänien (Peciu Nou) in 1762. So Nikolaus was not married when he emigrated to the Banat and may not have come through Vienna. A related question is ethnic in that Mamer, Luxemburg was a mix of French and Germans, how can you determine which ethnic group Nikolas Stoffel belonged to? Stoffel is a German name so we have always made that assumption but know nothing else about him. Again, many thanks for your genealogical research. Seeing Richard's mention of 'Perle' below, and seeing it on the border of Lux/Belgium makes me wonder if THAT was the Perl/Perle they were from. My line dead-ends with a Nicholas Aron/Arrent from Luxembourg, but I was never able to definitively identify the village of "Ritteburg" he was listed as being from. I assumed it was either a poorly transcribed "Bitburg" or maybe nearby Rittersdorf. If these Aron's in Stader were actually from Perle (Lux), maybe they are indeed connected to my line somehow, and maybe Ritteburg was a village near there, lost to history. > > Scott > > ? ? ? The use of GenTeam also requires no membership fee. additional developments created parallel to GenTeam are the www.GenList.at, a bilingual mailing list which more than 1,700 members as well as the genealogical link collection at www.GenLink.at. And now to the Actual update: 1 New: Jewish Community Nuremberg, Germany: Marriages 1906-1942 As if by miracle, the marriage book of the Nuremberg Jewish Community of 1906-1942 survived the horror of the Third Reich. A complete database of this book is now available on GenTeam. At this point, I would like to express my warmest gratitude to Mag. Leibl Rosenberg. 2 New: Jewish Community Vienna: Divorces 1870-1942 A database of all divorces of the Jewish Community Vienna between 1870 and 1942 could be added to GenTeam now. I would like to thank Traude Triebel. 3 New: Military Casualty Lists Austrian-Hungary World War 1 In the Casualty Lists you will find the wounded, prisoners of war, and the fallen from all member countries of the Habsburg Monarchy. In total, there will be approximately 3 to 3,5 million entries. You will find offices, one-year volunteers, and, naturally, the whole gang with all confessions, this, also Jewish, Muslim and Protestant soldiers. we find: Last Name and First Name, nobilization and academic degree, charge, body of troop, sub-branch, home country, district and homeland affiliation, year of birth, type of casualty (deceased, wounded or captured), in exchange back, etc.), and number of the list, numbers of additions and corrections, date of the list, page, and a link to Anno. All the casualty lists are online; however, the originals are not in a good printing quality, so that a full-text search often does not yield a positive result. After completion, we will install expanded search functions, so that you can search for casualties in a certain hometown – for example. The following excerpts of a total of over 720 lists are already online on GenTeam now: 1-13, 84, 99, 101, 102, 104, 108, 109, 129, 137, 140, 191, 194, 215, 232, 686. Approximately additional 280 lists are in progress. At this point, I would like to thank Heinz Adamec, Kurt Ahne, Rudolf Gugerbauer, Leopold Gugerel Robert Kaiser, Harald Lohauß, Martin Loidolt, Leo Mittringer, Anton Müllner, Sabine Pichler, Gerald Pribas, Wolfgang Schwarz, Henriette Steiner as well as Frank Raschka, as well as all who already work on additional lists which will soon go online. I invite you cordially to participate in this fascinating project. We gladly send you a compilation and organize the number of your list. Please, contact the project manager, Frank Raschka (many thanks, Frank!) at verlustliste@gmail.com or kontakt@GenTeam.at. 4 Vienna – Baptism Index between 1585 and 1915 Entries from the parishes 02 Sankt Johann Nepomuk, 03 Landstraße, 04 Wieden (Paulaner), 05 Sankt Josef Margareten, 07 Sankt Ulrich, 08 Alservorstadt Pfarre, 09 Lichtental, 10 Sankt Johann Evangelist were added (i.e 02 = disctrict 2). You will find a table listing all parishes with updated time frames under Hilfestufe/Help. At this point, I would like to thank Gabi Koller, Elisabeth Kultscher, Lisi Maxa, Angelika Panser, Marco Puhr, Gerda Smodej, Judith Starke and Wolfgang Strnad as well as all who already work on various indices with will soon go online. I would like to invite to participate on this Index. Simply contact me at kontact@GenTeam.at. 5 Vienna: Index of Catholic deaths Since the list of deaths in the Vienna Newspaper contains vast gaps (even with consideration of Viennese historic borders, as well as the interesting fact that on average approximately 40% entries of deceased children 1-year and under are missing); therefore, we at GenTeam have begun an index of Catholic burials. ne entries were added today of the parish of 01 Schotten. You will find a table listing all parishes with updated time frames under Hilfestufe/Help. I would like to thank Monika Fischer. 6 Index of Dominion records of Lower Austria We added indices of the dominions Brunn am Walde and Drosendorf. I would like to thank Dr. Günter Oppitz and Christine Sinhuber. 7 Georg Gaugusch: “Wer einmal war” (“Those who once were”), Part II : L-R Vienna´s Upper Class Jewish Society 1800-1938, part 2, was published in November 2016. Now we put the index of part 2 online. 1. part A-K, Amalthea, ISBN 978-3-85002-750-2 2. part L-R, Amalthea, ISBN 978-3-85002-773-1 8 Register Indices from Lower and Upper Austria, Burgenland, Styria, Tyrol, Bohemia and kuk Silesia Registers of the following Roman Catholic parishes were added: Lower Austria: Aschbach, Drosendorf, Gösing, Hagenberg, Mönichkirchen, Wilhelmsburg Upper Austria: Sigharting Burgenland: Stoob Tyrol: Steinach am Brenner Styria: Bad Aussee Austrian Silesia: Liebenthal/Liptan You will find a complete listing of parishes with updated time frames under Hilfestufe/Help. At this point, I would like to thank Ursula Baldemaier, Mag. Fritz Eichler, Ingrid Fleischer, Monika Hauser, Franziska Heidrich, Alois Kallinger, Elisabeth Kultscher, Dr. Günter Oppitz, Bernhard Siegl and Silvia Swoboda. If you too would like to participate, please, contact me directly at kontakt@GenTeam.at. We would be more than happy if you too would like to play a part with GenTeam by creating a database or furnishing an already completed database. However, if you only have questions, please, contact me anytime. Now I wish you much joy and success with your research with GenTeam and the new entries. 1. Re: [BANAT-L] Donauschwaben Hat Pins?
    2. Frank, I don’t now about pins and I’ve only seen the sew-on patches available at the landsmanschaft information tables at the Heimattag in Ulm. They only cost 1-2 Euro as I recall. You might use Google to locate the home page of the “Landsmannschaft der Banater Schwaben” and see if they are available there. Now all you need is to locate one of those black vests with the silver buttons to sew it onto. 1. [BANAT-L] Seipt Family from Rekasch
    2. Craig A. Windt
    3. Good morning! A woman whose son-in-law's family comes from Rekasch has been in contact with me, and I've been helping her with his family tree from the village. I was able to help her trace most of his branches from there to the early 1700s. However, his direct line, the SEIPT family, doesn't go back any further than 1813. So I'm asking if anyone has any information in regards to:  Peter SEIPT, born 1813, died 21 Feb 1856 in Rekasch. He married Katharina WEBER on 18 Nov 1834 in Rekasch.  Did he move from another town that may have further records on this family? The remaining four SEIPT households in Rekasch belong to his son and three grandsons.  Thanks in advance for your help. Craig A. Windt cawindt@yahoo.com

    3. Bob, You may be interested in knowing that the Triebswetter Heimatbuch has been translated into English and is available through Ray Borschowa who is a member of the list... Henry Fischer -----Original Message----- From: bobwolf@prodigy.net Sent: Friday, January 20, 2017 4:39 PM To: banat@rootsweb.com Cc: choltzclaw@comcast.net Subject: [BANAT-L] Vienna Registration Thank you to Dave, Bastian, Rudolf and Stacy for getting me on the right track. My line dead-ends with a Nicholas Aron/Arrent from Luxembourg, but I was never able to definitively identify the village of "Ritteburg" he was listed as being from. 1. [BANAT-L] Vienna Registration
    2. Thank you to Dave, Bastian, Rudolf and Stacy for getting me on the right track. > > Scott > > ? ? ? I didn't realize there were Banaters from the western border of Luxembourg and Belgium. I had always thought these Luxembourgers were from the eastern regions, and the areas that fell under Luxembourg long ago, that are now part of Germany (the Bitburg area, etc). In researching my Aron/Arend/Arent line, I found a couple of men in Stader from 'Perl', which I assumed was the Perl that is on the border of Lux/France/Germany. Scott ? ? ? It worked quite well, of course you need the number (e.g. BanA Fasz 35 rNr 156, fol 155b-156, 784b-785). Scott ? ? ? 3. Hello Rudolf, The information I have on Sigmundsfeld is as follows: Magdalena Hipfel born 4-22-1922 Parents: Niklaus Hipfel from Sigmundsfeld (occupation rotarius) Anna Welsch from Lazarfeld Godparents: Johann Pfeiffer Magdalena Keller born Dippong Married to Johann Vannemacher 1954 (or 1957 hard to read) in Nis which is where they say Johann is from. Unfortunately, the information I have includes only the years 1922-1953... nothing before that. Scott ? ? ? Glenn Schwartz ----- Original Message ----- From: William Schwiegeraht <bswag@yahoo.com> To: banat@rootsweb.com Sent: Sat, 14 Jan 2017 17:19:18 -0000 (GMT) Subject: Re: [BANAT-L] BANAT Digest, Vol 12, Issue 11 Thank you Guenter! I have already located Malberg in modern Germany and learned much about online - one day I plan to visit. I have also been in contact with the parish priest at Kyllburg parish who has tried to locate my family in the archives in Trier, but their records only go back to 1744. >From the Johannisfeld book by Susan Clarkson, I know Peter was my 3x great grandfather. Peter also appears in the Hatzfeld family book (Henz) on pg 756 (#11146), and the childeren's names agree. Peter married Elisabeth Blum in Hatzfeld, and sometime later went to Johannisfeld. On the same page is listed Johann (#11145) and above him is Barbara (#11144). When I first got started in genealogy two years ago, I found them linked in the Johannisfeld family tree record created by Susan Clarkson in Ancestry.com. However, the Hatzfeld book does not prove this, so I am looking for evidence that matches Dr. Clarkson's Ancestry record ( I am sure she would have had that, but my timing was unfortunate). I understand that original registration documents in Vienna may show names, ages, place or origin, and perhaps names of family members travelling ith Johann, and I hope to find positive proof from that. Unfortunately, Susan Clarkson died 3 months before I became interested in genealogy, so I missed my opportunity to ask her for her directly. Also, her Johannisfeld Famliebuch is out of print, but I was lucky to contact her daughter who saved the book (ms-word format) and sent to me on a CD-ROM! So, that is all the evidence I have. Scott ? ? ? 3. Bill, You are asking for much more than you are likely to get from these records. Many, if not most, do not give a specific town, nor do they give the names in the party except for the head of household. You can obtain a copy of the abstracts of the registrations published by Wilhelm and Kallbrunner from the AKdFF for a modest cost. You will find the same data in the Stader series supplemented with any other data which may apply. Dave Dreyer From: William Schwiegeraht<mailto:bswag@yahoo.com> Sent: Saturday, January 14, 2017 9:23 AM To: banat@rootsweb.com<mailto:banat@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [BANAT-L] BANAT Digest, Vol 12, Issue 11 Thank you Guenter! I attached my page from the Hatzfeld book and my file which I pulled out Schwiegerath information from the Johannisfeld book. Can you please tell me what you think. Scott ? ? ?
