    3. Thank you for so much info on this! This will be a big help to me. Mona ----- Original Message ----- From: Margaret Isabelle Obert Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2002 2:12 PM To: BALTGEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BALTGEN-L] Death and Cemetery Records Thanks to some of Maryland's dedicated genealogists, there are a number of tools that can be used to find the dates of death for Marylanders. Four volumes of books on cemetery records in Baltimore County were published by the Baltimore County Historical Society in 1985. Volume 1 covers Northern Baltimore County. I cannot remember which areas the other volumes cover. The books contain tombstone transcriptions, which means that if the tombstone no longer exists, the person will not be listed in the books. The books contain a last name index only. The Baltimore County Historical Society is in the process of updating the books with a full-name index. The Baltimore County Genealogical Society has published a number of cemetery books. You may want to check its website to see what is available. The Maryland Historical Society Library holds a number of books on death and cemetery records; you can check out what it has available by searching the card catalogue for "cemetery" or "deaths" on its website: www.mdhs.org Also, several individuals, such as Barnes, Magruder, and O'Neill, have published books of indices to marriage and death records in Baltimore newspapers. I think these books go as far as 1880, but there is a gap from about 1817 to 1836, unfortunately. The MHS also has a card index known as the Dielman-Hayward file which lists many, but not all, marriages and obituaries in early Baltimore newspapers. The Maryland Genealogical Society has published church records and cemetery records from around the state in its quarterly Bulletin. Many of its earliest Bulletins are available on a CD that can be obtained from a private vendor. The titles of more recent articles are on the MGS website. The Maryland State Archives has death records for Baltimore City beginning in 1875 and the counties beginning in 1898. There are indices to these records. No books have been published on either Greenmount or Baltimore Cemetery, unfortunately. _____________________________ > From: "mona everett" <cowpost@msn.com> > Date: Monday, March 4, 2002 5:46 PM > To: BALTGEN-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [BALTGEN-L] Margaret Obert: BC cemetery books > > Do you know which years these transcriptions cover?
