    3. Kathy, Sometimes census answers were given by a relative, who didn't really know where the person was born. Sometimes, people just don't want others to know their business. My grandparents were divorced. When my grandfather died, his daughter gave the information and said he was widowed. She also gave his birth place as being in a county that was not formed until 7 years after he was born. She was not an historian and didn't know that. Census records are not always correct.
