    3. Hello All! Since several of you have been hanging on, waiting for the outcome of my quest to get the federal civilian employment records for my grandfather's brother, here is the last word: I GOT THEM!!! After six months, one letter, 3 faxes, and 8 phone calls, I received his employment records. There were a lot of pages, but most were performance reviews and pay increases. However, I did find out what I most wanted to know--his death date! So I have now sent for his death cert and, hopefully, I will find out where he is buried! Additional info included was a sheet of his addresses, which gave me a new location, and info on his wife, which has narrowed her death date down. I am hoping he is buried with her, so I will solve 2 mysteries at once! Thanks to all who wrote with suggestions and encouragement. To anyone who is thinking of getting civilian records, I say, "Go for it!" In my case, he didn't have a SSN, so that slowed the process, but I have to be honest--the people I dealt with on the phone were very nice, and in fact, the last guy was the one who actually found the records and he personally pushed them thru the system, xeroxing and mailing them the same day he found them, as he knew I had been waiting so long. So, yes, there are bureaucratic problems, but in my case, it was the system, not the people! Mona
