Hello, If anyone has the time and access to the record, would you please check a marriage record for me? Maybe a local Family History Center would have the film in house or live close to a library that would have the marriage records. I need to verify which is the correct date of the marriage. BELDEN ( Beldon / Beldin / Belding ), David Douglas to PARMELEE ( Parmalee / Parmulee ), Emily C 3 May 1849, Baltimore - from IGI, extracted record; Source Information: Batch No.: M704078 ; Dates: 1848 - 1850; Source Call No.: 0013694; Type: Film; Printout Call No.: NONE 7 May 1849, Baltimore - from obit and biographies I am not sure if Baltimore is referring to City or County but believe it is probably County. Have asked for a lookup of this record twice, once on a CD and once in marriage announcements in the paper and nothing was found. To add to the confusion, the other day I was looking at an Ohio Marriage book and found a marriage for this couple on the 7 May 1849 in Ohio under the name Douglas D. Belden and it says Emily C is of Baltimore, MD. Since the IGI listed the entry as an extracted record, there has to be something in Baltimore, MD so I went back to family search and looked at the source for their information and I believe this probably answers my question. Even though the entry is listed as a marriage, the source looks like it is actually marriage licenses. My guess is they may have obtained the license in MD and were actually married in OH but the only way I will know for sure is to check the marriage records. This is the source for the entry in the IGI at familysearch.org: Title Baltimore County (Maryland) marriage licenses, 1777-1846, 1777-1846 Authors Baltimore County (Maryland). Clerk of the Circuit Court (Main Author) Notes Microfilm of originals at Hall of Records, Annapolis. There is a card index at the Hall of Records, Annapolis. Subjects Maryland, Baltimore - Vital records Physical 2 microfilm reels ; 35 mm Film Notes Licenses 1777-1832 - FHL US/CAN Film [ 13693 ] Licenses 1832-1846 - FHL US/CAN Film [ 13694 ] The source even adds to the confusion because it doesn't include the dates for the supposed marriage????? Thank You, Pam Belden
IN 1848 the city was part of the County, so there is only one set of Baltimore marriage licenses for 1848. The data you listed is correct. There is a card index of all Baltimore marriages from 1777 to 1851 that had been extracted. All the records of marriage licenses are on microfilm up to at least 1930s. The county and city marriage records are separate files starting in 1851. It is very possible that the marriage date taken from either a church record or notice in the newspaper could be a few days after the license date. I checked the Baltimore Marriages in Sun (paper 1837-1851) and did not see David BELDEN to Emily Parmelee marriages listed there.
