What a fantastic story. I'm sure you are very excited, and, I for one, will be thinking of you and hoping that you meet the mystery flower placers personally and find that it is a relative or someone who really loved your ancestor. I think that you might consider writing this one up and submitting to some of the genealogy magazines which love such feature stories, or take a reporter from your local newspaper or TV station with you, or get a cell number where maybe you could contact them if and when you are successful making contact with the person/s placing the flowers! Thanks for sharing with the list. I'm really excited for you! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jane Thursby" <mejanemd@suscom.net> To: <BALTGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 08, 2006 5:28 PM Subject: [BALTGEN-L] Staking Out Cathedral Cemetery on Palm Sunday I thought I would tell all the Baltimore people what I am up to tomorrow (Palm Sunday) in case you want to join me in my adventure. Two years ago in May after looking for many years, I finally found my husband' 2nd great-grandparents gravesite. They are in New Cathedral in Baltimore. I rushed over to take pictures of the graves and it was only when I got home and downloaded the pictures from my camera that I noticed that there were flowers in the urn, relatively new ones too. In my excitement of finding the Fischer plot, I hadn't noticed. I couldn't call the cemetery back because it was Saturday afternoon and had to wait until Monday only to find out they had no contact except for the woman who died in the 1970's. I checked all my findings and no descendent said they had left them. I searched for new unknown descendents but none were to be found. Everyone was dead or had died childless as far as I could determine. So-I went back to the cemetery with a plastic cover note. Almost a year went by and nothing so last Good Friday I went back. I made sure that I took another note in case the first was gone. As I walked up to the tombstone, I noticed the note was gone. I leaned over to replace the note when what did I notice but palms in with new flowers. The palms from Palm Sunday! The first year I had thought the flowers were from Mother's day but I now realize they were Palm Sunday. I had missed them by 5 days! So tomorrow, I am going out to New Cathedral after dropping Chip at church and waiting. I will be getting there around 10:30 am and waiting. I will be taking a book, some work and my needlepoint project and I am waiting. I hope I am not to late in the morning but I will be able to tell that because today I went by after the MGS luncheon and put another note out there. IN THE RAIN The flowers had been changed to a Christmas poinsettia and had been duct taped to the urn to hold it in place. SOMEBODY is coming out there several times a year. I wonder if my note is missing by the time they are getting there? Just as a precaution-I removed the flower and the dust tape and replaced it with the note rubber banded in place. Tomorrow I am ready. Please show up so I can find out who you are. Please if you come Monday or Tuesday, however-take my note and call or write or email..PLEASE!
