On the wedding certificate of my grandparents it just states that they were married in Baltimore County by William Batz, Pastor in 1911. Then in 1916 their son was baptized in Baltimore County also by William Batz, Pastor. Can anyone tell me what Church William Batz, Pastor was associated with? My great Aunt, who just recently passed away always said that they were married at Batz Church, but I do not think that was the actual name of the Church. Thank you for your help, Sharon
The church was named Batz Church because of the Pastor's name. The story is that Pastor Batz was so well liked that they called the church Batz Church. It is really the First United Evangelical Church on Dillon Street and East Avenue now in Baltimore City. My grandmother was married there and most of the children baptised there. In fact there is a German cemetery connected (not physically, though) to the church where my Wolf family is buried. I have the list (not complete) of burials in the cemetery if you want me to email them to you. Also, I can scan the page from the book, "The Very Quiet Baltimoreans" that tells about the cemetery. I think the church records may be at the Maryland State Archives.
