    1. Re: [BALTGEN-L] GRIFFITH FAMILY, BALTIMORE
    2. Hard to say. I have no previous knowledge, but there is a website for Civil War information. It shows several John Griffiths from Maryland but none of them have the initial, "T." Middle initials can be unreliable. The website is: _http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/_ (http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/) There may be others. Norm In a message dated 12/2/2005 2:01:42 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: DEAR NORM, I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP AS I FEEL THIS IS CORRECT. WOULD YOU KNOW IF JOHN T EVER SERVED IN THE CIVIL WAR? THANKS AGAIN AND I'LL GET BACK TO YOU SOON. SINCERELY & THANKS, JARRET T. GRIFFITH

I have a newspaper from Butte, MT, that has three different death announcements (one long obit, one lodge announcement, and one short death notice) for my John T. Reese. In the same day's paper, his initial is T., L., and F.! Of course, a few years later, his wife's MT death cert gives her name as "John Reese"--not Mrs. even. It does list her as female and widow, however! I had a lot of fun trying to pry that one from MT! Both these folks were from Baltimore and are buried there. Just goes to prove Norm's point! Although, often with common names, middle initials are all we have to go on, we have to both be careful and open to other possibilities. Good luck! Mona
