    1. Henry Nicholas LOCK (LOCKE) b about 1810
    2. George Locke
    3. Hello List, I would like to ask for your advice on a research matter. My GG-Grandfather, Henry Nicholas LOCK(E) was born in Baltimore around 1810 (+/- 2 years). I am approximating his birth year from his Death Certificate, as well as census records. I am all but convinced that his Parents were Nathaniel LOCK and Amelia HAND (m March 29, 1791) IN the 1800 Census for Baltimore, Nath'l LOCK shows up with children According to the 1810 census for Baltimore, there was only one LOCK(e) family in town at that time that had a male child under 10 years of age. The Census listing is for a Mrs. LOCK, so no luck on the father's name there. However, there is a Nathaniel LOCKE in Philly, Pa with a male child of proper age. I suppose that it is conceivable that Nathaniel may have moved to Philly for a while. ( a search of the Maryland Chancery records shows that he stayed in Bankruptcy court for many years.) In the 1820 Census, Nathaniel shows up again in Baltimore and this time there are more children. I have several records that show where my GG-Grandfather, Henry Nicholas LOCK(e) stated that he was born in Baltimore, and it is my belief that Nathaniel LOCK was his father, but I can find no record of Birth or Baptism for him (Henry Nicholas LOCK) in the Hall of Records in Annapolis. My question is this: What sources are available outside the State Records Hall in Annapolis which might have Baptism records for Baltimore for those early years? I would venture a guess that it would be the Methodist Church, but that is not certain. I do not have the time to go to the local family history center, order every roll of film they have for Baltimore Churches, and look through every page, although it is starting to look like the course I will have to take. . of course, I am assuming that he actually *was* born in Baltimore and that he actually *was* baptized. Thanks for any pointers you can provide to me. Sincerely, George F. Locke Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

    3. Thanks, Tim. I think I've located people who are probably my husband's relatives in 1870 in Little Gunpowder district using Heritage Quest but all the censuses aren't there so I'll take my time looking at what you so kindly sent. 3. Thanks, John. We knew my husband had ancestors who were farmers in Long Green and I have found several names that look right in 1870 in the Little Gunpowder District and I'm just trying to make sure it's the right area. 3. Ruth, Long Green was in the Eleventh District of Baltimore County in 1870. I'm not sure if that answers your question. Within some voting Districts, they recorded pages as being in certain post office areas, including the Little Gunpowder Post Office. An 1877 map shows Long Green Post Office, as well as the Little Gunpowder Post Office, but no boundaries are shown.
