    1. Clarification-- New charges from Pratt Library
    2. mona everett
    3. Hi, All, I just thought of something--I live out-of-state. Maybe the Pratt is not charging Marylanders??? Anyway, it is minimal and well worth it. Anyone know more than I do about this? Mona

    3. Mona, Thanks for letting us know. Now I will be sure to include a request for the cost when I ask for something from them. Just to let them know that we are happy to pay for their service. 3. The people at Enoch Pratt have always been so great about helping (e.g., they mail you the copies first), I send $5 even if the cost was only $2 - of course, then I get another mailing that says "Thank you for your donation"! -- Cassie ----------------- On Apr 4, 2006, at 12:43 PM, mona everett wrote: Hi, All, I just received a few obits that I had requested from the Enoch Pratt Library and they sent along a bill for printing and postage. 2. Debbie I am not sure I read you correctly, but records are not moved when new counties are created but remain in the county where they were created. Imagine going through a deed book and creating 2 new one based on where the land is not situated. However if you meant that what is now Cumberland County was until say 1854 part of a larger Original County and the records are there. People living in the area might say they did something in Cumberland when they actually did it in Original. However here wer are talking about only 3 years and an apparent move a new state. JUlia

    1. Edward DORSEY/DARCY probably born in Ireland
    2. The latest DNA results suggest that Edward DORSEY/DARCY, who was transported to VA by 1642, and moved to Anne Arundel County, MD has a probable Irish origin. The results can be seen on this page: http://www.contexo.info/DorseyDNA/Results800.htm Further discussion can be seen under "Lineage I" at the top. He is definitely not descended from Norman D'Arcy who went to England with William the Conqueror. That line includes the DARCYs of Hornsby Castle, which is commonly listed as the ancestry of Edward, the VA/MD immigrant. Rick Saunders

    1. Naturalization puzzle
    2. mona everett
    3. Hello, I found our ancestor, David W. DAVIS/DAVIES in the Naturalization Index book at the MD Archives. It said he declared his intention in Cumberland County, NJ, in 1845, and was granted citizenship in Baltimore in 1848. I got his papers from Baltimore while I was at the Archives and they contain the same info regarding NJ. I wrote to the Cumberland County Clerk with the info, and she says she has no record. Has anyone had a similar situation? If so, any ideas? She suggested I try a neighboring county in NJ, which I will do, but I think it is odd that the index and his original records in Baltimore would both say Cumberland County. Help! Thanks! Mona
