A well intensioned warning but, as usual, a hoax! Sulfnbk.exe is a valid Microsoft Windows files that has to do with the handling of long file names. Although any file can be infected with a virus, this file is not in and of itself a virus. Go to www.microsoft.com to find out how to restore this file if necessary. Happy New Year! 2002 is off to a great start at "Baltimore City Nineteenth-Century Photos" web page. Several new group photos have been submitted, each with 20 or more subjects. Several are identified but most aren't. Here are some of the names: Yost, Ditzel, Gill, Hite, Martin. Bonnie Proctor has submitted three group photos from the Baltimore Retort and Brickyard dating from about 1890 to 1910 or so. Her ancestor Jakob Yost is pictured in these photos. Best of all, she tells how our website led her to find these photos in the first place! Bill Gill submitted a school class photo from Bare Hills School dating about 1912 with Morris Gill, Sarah and Russ Ditzel. The surnames Hite and Martin are on the back of the photo but we don't know who they are in this great picture of a teacher, a flag and lots of elementary students. Bill's cousin provides some history of the school. The address of this site is: http://freepages.hobbies.rootsweb.com/~ruppert/ There's another new feature on the site ... a guestbook. See what others have said and then leave your notes for all the surfers to see. Baltimore City 19th-Century Photos is a website dedicated to photographic images of and/or by Baltimoreans. Sometimes we stretch the 19th century a bit, sometimes you'll find portraits, sometimes buildings and street scenes, and hopefully you'll find someone from your family that you'll recognize. Please visit and don't be bashful about submitting your old family photos to be shared on the web! Gary 10 January 2002 Baltimore http://home.att.net/~g.ruppert

This hoax has been hitting the lists hard. DO NOT delete this file. It is the file in Windows which backs-up and restores file names larger that 8 characters. If in doubt about who to trust, always go to one of the many sites which identifies all known viruses and those which identify hoaxes and urban myths (that's a nice euphemism for lies and tricks). There is an excellent list of Hoax identification sites at http://symantec.com http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/content.cfm?articleid=1123&PID=na&EID=0 Symantec also has known Virus identification and information on their home page under: The New Danger: Blended Threats December 13, 2001 <http://www.symantec.com/images/homepage/spacer Download Latest Virus Definitions <http://www.symantec.com/images/homepage/spacer.gif> Search Virus Encyclopedia <http://www.symantec.com/images/homepage/spacer.gif> Now, I hope we all can get back to the fascinating search for family and ancestral lines in and around Baltimore County.
If you received the previous email from me????? STOP STOP STOP, The file is not a virus, it is needed by windows. Do not delete the file. Richard
Hello I just received this message, from a member of The Howard County Genealogical Society and did find the mentioned "sulfnbk" in my system and deleted it. So you can take this for what it is worth and make your own disission, but its easy to find if you have it.. Richard Hello, Sorry to have to send you a message like this, but it might be important. I received a message that I may have been sent a computer virus and it's transmitted via your address book. I did have it and have deleted from my system. Because you are in my address book, you may have it. It is not picked up by Norton or McAfee. It lies dormant for 14 days, then closes down your system. Following is an effective way to get rid of it. Directions: 1. go to start - then to "search or find" 2. In the "search files or folder" type on sulfnbk.exe - this is the virus 3. in the "look in" make sure you're searching Drive C 4. Hit "search or find" button 5. if this shows up (it's an ugly blackish icon that will have the name sulfnbk.exe) DO NOT OPEN IT 6. right click on the file - go down to delete and left click 7. If asked if you want to send it to your recycle bin, say yes. 8. go to your desktop recycle bin and double click on the recycle bin 9. right click on sulfnbk.exe and delete again - or empty bin 10. If you find it, send this e-mail to all in your address book because this is how it is transferred.

Joan, I was researching the Locust Point area of Baltimore and I had good luck at the Maryland State Archives and the Maryland Historical Society. The church records (Catholic) for Our Lady of Good Counsel and Holy Cross Church found in the Maryland State Archives were particularly helpful (and easy to read on micro-film). My feelings exactly. I think it's great to find someone even if they are very far removed. It's still exciting... Hi, I am looking for information on Frederick or Ottilia Ziegler. Charles (b.25 Dec 1847) and Ottilia Ziegler(no maiden name b.dec 1848) immigrated to the US in 1889 from Germany (1900 census). They settled in Baltimore, MD with there son, Frederick (b. March 1879). Frederick married Mary Elizibeth SPIES and they had 12-13 children, the majority of children stayed in Baltimore. Charles died in 1910 and somewhere in the next few years Ottilia married a MUELLERand lived in Essex. Around the late 1920's rumor has it that Frederick left for California and shortly after Ottilia followed neither heard from again. I am in search of Frederick Ziegler or Ottilia Mueller any help would be great on them or if this line sounds familiar please email at dazzle@alltel.net Thanks Davina
Well I don't normally reply to emails of this sort but this one really hit it on the nose for me. I agree TOTALLY with Sharon.... I am not in this for profit, and yes I would be upset if someone SOLD my information as I have worked very hard to compile it, but it IS public information. I admit that when I first started doing this in 1986 I was not very knowledgeable about what to do and at that time I did not reference my sources as well as I wish I had. I do document all my information now as to where I got the information from. If it came from some one via email, I put their name and email address as the source and hopefully that person has also provided source information which I document. If info came from a web site, I literally copy the URL address as the source information. Not only are we not fool proof and we come up with differing information, but those who originally compiled the information (i.e., birth records, death records, obituaries, census - these documents many times have incorrect information, misspellings, etc.) I also not only document my direct lines, but the sibling lines too as this information has led me to many other connections. When a relative - regardless how far removed they are - requests information I gladly provide it, but request and expect that person to reciprocate. If their info does not match what I have I still document it, as theirs could be the correct information or a combination there of. I do post my database to pages like ancestry.com, gencircles.com and I'm sure my information has shown up on many other sites. If it does I am happy that it is there because that posting may just lead to that one person who may contact me with a missing link. One thing though that I am very careful about though is that when I do post, I am very careful to privitize my information for those personnel who are still living to protect their privacy. I know I am rambling, but I just had to post my two cents worth. I am copying this to some of the other sites that I subscribe to because I do believe it is very interesting in what everyones opinion is regarding the sharing of information. I apologize to those of you who also subscribe to the same list and will get multiple copies of this.
