    2. Nancy: Nancy Brown was the daughter James Brown and Mary Ann Gault of County Antrim, Ireland who settled in Baltimore about 1818. Nancy was born 2 Mar 1824 and died 4 August 1885 in Baltimore. She was interred with her Brown relatives in Greenmount Cemetery but was later removed to another section of the cemetery (perhaps with the Jacksons). Nancy Brown married Hugh Jackson about whom I know nothing. They had at least one child, James Brown Jackson who died 19 Dec 1860. The Browns are related to my Pentland family, Scots- Irish descent. I have more information about this family on my web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ruppert/pentland Please be in touch. 1. Re: [BALTGEN-L] Hugh Jackson and wife Anne Brown
    2. Gary, Thank you for your response. I know Hugh Jackson was a prominent builder in Baltimore City. He and Nancy Brown were married 22 March 1852 and the marriage was published in the Baltimore Sun. (Index of Marriages in the Baltimore Sun 1851-1860 by Hollowak.) Hugh Jackson died June 12, 1883 and he is buried in the Jackson Vault at the Westminister Presbyterian Church yard in Baltimore (the same cemetery as Edgar Allen Poe). I know they had one child - James Brown Jackson who died December 18, 1860 at the age of 2 months and 9 days. "From Departed This Life, Death Notices from the Baltimore Sun 1859-1860 published by Family Line Publications." I strongly suspect that they were the parents of my Grandmother Laura Virginia Jackson who was born 14 February 1857. She was attending the Westminister Presbyterian Church in 1870 when she was awarded an inscribed bible by the Sunday School. I have the Bible in my possession. My grandmother was also married in the Westminister PP Church on her 18th Birthday - 14 February 1877. The marriage was published in the Baltimore Sun paper. Since I was born when my parents were in their 40's I never got to know my grandmother and apparently did not know his grandmother as when he gave the information for my Grandmother's death certificate he listed her father as ? Jackson and her mother as unknown. Since she was a member of the Westminister Church and her wedding was prominent enough to be published in the Sun Paper she almost certainly has some ties to Hugh Jackson who was an active member of that church during that time frame. As far as I have been able to determine his was the only Jackson family in the church. Unfortunately the church was disbanded in 1977 and the original records are no where to be found according to the Presbyterian Church in Baltimore. It is interesting that Nancy was not interred in The Jackson Family Vault in the Westminister Church Cemetery. I wonder if she and Hugh had divorced or separated at some time. For some reason my Grandmother choose not to tell her children about her parents and yet even though she was widowed at the age of 36 and left with 6 small children she never remarried and she had enough money to maintain a 3 story home with servants. She died in 1932 and had never had to work a day in her life. Hugh apparently was a rather wealthy man and it is possible that she inherited from him. My father had mentioned that she had a brother named William who died about 1890 - but he never mentioned any other of her relatives. I may have to try to get copies of the Baltimore City Directories and go through them year by year trying to trace the family. Thanks again for the response. Nancy Ridgely Richardson Jeffs
