For Dr. Dennis Reaver: In the lookup you requested, there is no Washington but there is a John C. Wassington who passed away June 27, 1907, Md, 84 yr, Bayview Asylum, Old Age, Parents: Anna M & John F (13327) DD-9. There is a Raymond Reaver, passed away Nov. 26, 1926, 37 yr. 9 m. 12 d, Back River, Struck by Train (18816) U-57. Hope this helps. Shirley Akins Brown
Would someone please be kind enough to check their Mt Carmel Record book 1905-1936 for the names REAVER (REEVER) and WASHINGTON. I tried to buy a copy from Willow Bend Books but they were out of stock . Thank you very much. Dennis Reaver
Thanks so much...you folks really know your sources! I was hoping it would be easier than it looks like it will be, but so what else is new. At least now I have some direction and that's what I really needed. Susan
My distant cousin, Ida Warren NOVAK died in Baltimore in June, 1980. Is there a source of obituaries, say from the Sun, for that period? Or an index? Thanks, Bob Warren rewarren@ameritech.net

The source of death records in 1831 would be confined to newspapers, church records, and tombstones primarily. If your ancestor had a will the main source would be the Maryland State Archives in Maryland. They have the wills by county indexed by surname. If he/she died intestate you should look for an Administrative Account, also at the archives. If you know approximately where he/she lived, you can field search for the grave. Baltimore Co. Historical Society has the records of some cemeteries that were copied.

Most of the records you seek should be at the state archives. http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/ On their web site, you can find out what records are available, how to order them or, what hours the research room is open if you are close enough to visit in person. I'm sure someone has asked and had this question answered before, but here goes again. My ancestor died in 1831 in Baltimore County. Where will I find records of his death, such as a death certificate, where he was buried, and if he had a will? And if he didn't have a will and died intestate, where would I find those records? Thanks so much for any help. Susan
According to the online Family History Library catalog, there is a gap in the transcribed Marriage/Death/Obits from this paper during this time (of course that's exactly the timeframe I need). Is this accurate? Are these transcribed indexes only found at the FHL? Robin Hoff Kaspar Volunteer host, Grant County, Wisconsin WIGenweb http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigrant
Thanks to the many folks from various lists who responded to my question about this lady's offer. The general opinion is not to send her any money. Thank you for posting alternative websites where this info may be obtained. Mona
hello everyone, this is my first post i believe to this list. i am looking for parentage of the 3 brothers STARR of baltimore, henry, William and hezekiah. hezekiah starr was born in baltimore 1781. his brothers were older by a few years each. hezekiah was a tobacconist w/ a dwelling in 1810 @ pitt st. olde town. and later from 1814-1819 until he removed to richmond Va. he was at 27 S Calvert st. batlimore Town. hezekiah married Julia Ann dashiell, b. 1781. daughter of Captain benjamin dashiell and ann yoe. benjamin was born 1737 in stepney parish, somerset County to Mitchell Dashiell and Mary. The Council of maryland; wednesday 11 august 1779. commission of letters of marque and Reprisal issued to benjamin Dashiell, Commander of the Brig Fox, belonging to John Dorsey and Company, baltimore. Md. benjamin's sister ann Dashiell married james Buchanan, Merchant, Captain, and Ship Owner of baltimore Md. Issue unknown. I apologize for so much of this info at once. i hope I have not offended anyone by writing so extensively, its just that I have not been able to take this back further. neither has my mother, nor her uncle. They have been at it for some time. The Dashiell line of Somerset County we have from the Dashiell Family Book, which is where the bulk of the above info came from. I am hoping that someone out there will recognize any of the related names. I have all marriages for hezekiah's brothers, Henry and William, including Issue and further. Recently I noticed that there are many Starr people in baltimore County that may be parents of the brothers or related to them. james and Moses starr are in balto Co. 1737 tax list. Aquilla and hany starr are in 1750 list for baltimore also. There are some births in late 1790s for james and Ann Starr's issue. I am assuming this to be James Starr and ann grover from the Pa and Delaware Quaker/Irish/English Starr Family. The Aquilla, Moses and older james also fit for that family. The use of Worthington has not been uncovered, I think perhaps the brothers Starr may have been Worthingtons by their mother's side. I can give all the names of herny and William's children, if need be. Hezekiah was a member of the ancient Mechanical Society of Baltimore, he served with them during the war of 1812 in defense of Baltimore, his brother William served with him. There is a William Starr, taylor, in 1796 B.C. directory with an Obediah Starr, mahogany sawyer, and Capt. benjamin Dashiell; and Lewis bernard, merchant. I have looked at the Worthington, Buchanan, Dorsey families as well as some from the Sons of Liberty, the Independent Cadets, the Council of Safety, the Committee of Observation, the Committee to lay out baltimore town, etc. Obediah Starr was also a member of the mechanical society and the Sons of Liberty, which grew from the Mechanical Society. There is an Obediah Starr in 1781 fighting from across the bay in Talbot county. We believe hezekiah Starr also owned a Ship as Joseph A. Mall. I believe Obediah Starr (sr.?) did as well. I will stop here and hope this is read, if at least skimmed, by some members of this list, and not simply deleted. I read many emails everyday but i also delete quite a few as well. I am very sorry for writing so long. Please contact me with any suggestions regarding my research. does anyone know who is the authority on the Whig Society of Baltimore or any of the above mentioned societies and acting bodies during the Revolution? kindest regards, jason carpenter in nyc where i will do moderate lookups @ the NYG&BS, NYHS, and NYPL Genealogy Room as well as the NARA here in town.Get more from the Web. Mona, I am not a lawyer, but, I'd be very wary of this. It looks like she may be using copyrighted databases. If so, she could get into trouble for sharing the info for a fee. I don't know if you'd get in trouble by paying her for the information or not. Of course, she may have gotten permission from the copyright owners to do the work, in which case everything is okay. But, as I understand it, just buying the database doesn't give her the right to resale the information on it. I can understand her wanting to recap some of the money she's put into the databases, it looks like a great collection. I wish I could afford it. Hi Group, I was just going thru an 1851 Baltimore directory CD for a customer of mine, and came across a section that may be of interest to some on the list. There is a niced sized portion entitled "Colored householders in the city of Baltimore" I am taking this to include Afrikan and Indian.I see how hard it is to find non white ancestors by emails to the lists I am on and just wanted you all to know about this. The directory is Matchetts 1851 Baltimore directory. You may be able to get this at your FHC or inter library loan...I do not know for sure.It runs from page 301-344. If your FHC or library does not have this, they may be able to order it for you.It just seemed to important not to mention as another resource for whoever has a need for this.Feel free to post this info to whatever list you think might benefit. El Segundo sued over office park Also wanted to let you all know that Loretta Frye is now in the hospital. She's got a lot of fluid in her lungs. She was coughing a lot at Bill's Campaign Kickoff last Sat and looks like it got a lot worse. She's got asthma and emphysema with a bad heart to boot. All these are complicating things. I'll keep you all posted. In case you wanted to know, she's in Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance. Kitty

Does anyone have any information about a company called Fulton and Franklin, House builders? Mr. Fulton and Ellsworth Franklin built row houses in Baltimore and then built houses in Lauraville, outside of Baltimore from before 1900 to around 1914 when the company declared bankruptcy. The story is that Mr. Fulton took all the funds from the company and left with his mistress for France, leaving behind his family and Ellsworth J. Franklin to clean up the mess. Does anyone know where I might find bankruptcy papers for the town of Baltimore for around 1914? The original Baltimore City passenger lists are housed at the Baltimore City Archives. The list that Tim published is the NARA microcopy which of course are available at the National Archives in DC and branches across the country. Many if not most of these are also available on a variety of CDs for sale commercially. Enoch Pratt Free Library (Newspapers and Serials on the first level) also have a set of microfilmed Baltimore passenger arrivals. I think they are also available for loan through the FHL system. I don't recall ever seeing these at the MSA ... but I don't think I've every looked!
