Congratulations Tim! No doubt that you will be doing a very good job. You have helped so many of us so many times. I look forward to visiting the site often. It is slowly winding its way back up to be "the site" to visit for all types of Genealogy help. I hope to see you visit the Baltimore/Baltimore County site for a look see and learn how to do all types of searching there. The URL for this site is >> http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=md&county=baltimore << and stop in for a treat, and maybe find what it is you are searching for. The site went down just after I was given the county co-ordinators position, and I have not had much experience with the site, but hopefully I will be getting to it directly. Of course, I can't say that there were nuns at Church Home Hospital; but I know that the Episcopal Church does have one or more orders of nuns. It's not a very well known fact, but they have orders of both nuns and monks. Does anyone know what happened to the memorial windows that were there? My mother gave one in memory of my Great Aunt, Anna B. Sutor. If it's still in existence somewhere I'd like to at least see it. I always thought it would be there and I've never made a special trip to see it. Now it may be too late if it's just been "pitched". I have 3 addresses, and I'd like to find 1910 census enumeration districts. I THINK they are Baltimore City, but I'm not familiar with Baltimore, and I don't know where the city/county boundaries are, or how they may have changed over the years. The 3 addresses are: 908 N. Mount, 1229 N. Bond, and 1001 N. Fulton Ave. Thanks - Mary
Hi List, Thought it was time to try my names again. Hope someone will know something.Looking for parents of John Dickerson born in 1880 in Ohio. Only have the names James and Lydia Unknown Dickerson. Both born in 1790. Place unknown. William Spellman born in Ohio in about 1820, married Celia McKown.Need to know who his parents were, where he was born, where his parents were born, etc.....Think the family may have come from Va originally or???? Need to find info on Louisa Jeffreys(Jeffers) or Kate Louisa Jeffreys/Jeffers or Louisa Kate Jeffreys/Jeffers. Of course the Kate could be nickname for Katharine,Catherine.Know she married John Dickerson in 1875 in Athens,Oh. and they lived in Meigs County, Oh. He was her 2nd husband. Her 1st marriage was to Charles Low in 1870. Looking for information on their son George Low born in August, 1869.Do not have any other information on him. Looking for any thing oon Larkin Ramsey born in Knoxville, Tn in 1810. Do not know who his parents were.Only know one was supposed to have come from Penna and one from South Carolina but don't know which was which. Any help will be greatly appreciated
Unfortunately, there is no Soundex for the 1910 Maryland Census. If your family lived in Baltimore City, you can find the address in the City Directory and then find the Enumeration District for that address. If they lived in the county, you will probably have to search the entire county. > ______________________________ > From: <kdgeneal@mindspring.com> > Date: Friday, August 16, 2002 2:04 PM > To: BALTGEN-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [BALTGEN-L] 1910 census index, MD > > I've been trying to locate an index or soundex for the 1910 MD census, but > have so far been unsuccessful. I've been trying to locate an index or soundex for the 1910 MD census, but have so far been unsuccessful. Does anyone on the List have access to such an index, that could do one lookup for me? Or, could you point me in another direction? With the index listing I could then look up the enumeration on ancestry.com. Thanks a million! MULLEN, Patrick, b. Hi, I am trying to find the district for 4603 Mainfield Ave.I thought I had it once. But it went all around the road.It is located between Cold Spring Lane,Harford Rd and Overland Ave at least according to my map which is kinda new. Thanks again for your help. Lynn
Church Home and Hospital was the place where Edgar Allen Poe died. That, and Jan's tonsil removal, were probably it's main claim to fame. Preservationists, because of the Poe connection, worked to save it, but the wrecking ball won out. Hi Frankie: Just to add a little to your question and the responses. Church Home Hospital and Infirmary was a long established institution in Baltimore. I believe it was founded through the Episcopal Church so I doubt that Catholic nuns were singing there in the 1950s! Anyway, the hospital was housed in a building that long ago served as one of the early medical schools in Baltimore. The institution was also often cited as the place where Edgar Allen Poe was taken as he was dying. Although the hospital building was recently razed as part of a program between the city of Baltimore's Public Housing (Broadway) and Johns Hopkins, the oldest part of the structure is still standing and at least the last I heard still had some residents in its nursing home facility. This may have changed though. If you are trying to obtain records from Church Home, I have had a little experience, unfortunately ineffectual. My grandfather was hospitalized there when he died in the 1950s. A few years ago I wrote to Medical Records requesting a copy of his hospitalization. I submitted this on my physician letterhead thinking this would expedite the request. Unfortunately I was turned down flat. I later telephoned and was basically told no once again. Perhaps now that the hospital is defunct and its records are no doubt in storage somewhere, you might have better success. Hope some of this is helpful. Gary B. Thanks for the correction Eric. The number 865 was what I copied from the Census record, but I must have been in dim light! Sorry. Nancy Eric Haas wrote: > > EH> 1635 Hanover Street is in ED 368. Dear Frankie, I believe the name of the hospital at that time was Church Home Hospital. My husband was born there in 1952. You will probably get more responses before I get a chance to get you more info ... but I will check and make sure. It seems in recent years they had changed their name or no longer exist. Gail
