    1. RE: [BALTGEN-L] STANSBURY - Baltimore Visit Next week
    2. Ed Arthur
    3. Both places you mentioned are good places to visit i.e. State Archives and Md Hist Soc. Probably depends on where you are staying. It is sometimes hard to get into the archives. They are both closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Land records, death records, wills etc. can be found at archives. The Historical society has lots of family histories, charts etc. as well as the usual census records and obituary information. -----Original Message----- From: RA Stansbury [mailto:rastansbury@worldnet.att.net] Sent: Saturday, October 05, 2002 10:31 AM To: BALTGEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BALTGEN-L] STANSBURY - Baltimore Visit Next week Hello List, I am planning to be in Baltimore next week looking for information on my line of STANSBURY ancestors. I am wondering where I would be best spending my time. I was planning to probably go to the MD Archives to look for land records first. Is that a good idea? Any other suggestions? Also, how to find Baltimore City Directory addresses and Census locations? Is there any map or cross reference to show where street names and or house numbers have changed? And how to find locations that are in census records. Any suggestions of visiting the MD Historical Society, Baltimore County Historical Society, Dundalk - Patapsco Neck Historical Society? I believe my STANSBURY's lived both in Baltimore City and in the Dundalk area. Thanks, Robert Stansbury Birmingham, AL ==== BALTGEN Mailing List ==== Please do not sent attachments on any E mails to the list.

    3. Mae, Probably a married woman shouldn't go either <g>. A note regarding the rail tracks: Years ago, the United Railway (later the Baltimore Transit Company) would run a funeral car into certain cemeteries. One of the was Loudon Park as I recall. My great-grandmother was a charwoman working for United, and was responsible for keeping the funeral car bright and shinny. 3. Nancy All of my family is buried in Loudon Park. The "older" germans are buried in the old section which is next to the Frederick Road side. I have grgrgrandparents buried in this older section. But you do have to be very careful there. The Frederick Road gates are chained shut and you have to go in on the Wilkens Avenue side and drive over to the Frederick Road side. The vandals get in regardless. Just be careful. 2. Family History Library...or go to www.familysearch.org and click on catalog. The Baltimore Family History Centers have the Loudon Cemetery films...both Stemmers Run Road and St. John's Lane.

    2. Nancy check out - familysearch.org. The family history Library is mantained by the Mormon church in Salt Lake City. They also have smaller branch libraries in most areas of the country. You can see what records are available in the library catalog on line. I believe you can also find their closest local library to your home. Then you go to your closest local facility and for a very small fee (about $3) you can order the film or micro fiche in and you have it for 3 months to use at the local branch library. They have more records available then most of the historical societies. Nancy Nancy
