Hello, Could I have a lookup for a James Bayard Van Horn and wife, Sarah, who lived either in the Hampden area or Sweet Air. MD. Thank you so much. Etta
Hey Robin, guess what??? I have them, I believe, in my Mt. Olivet Cemetery Books. Isn't that something? In fact, there are quite a bit of BRASHEARS listed in all three books. So you think I can help you out with this???? Just say the word! LDS has a listing of marriages from this church 1817-1885. Does it still exist? Where is/was it? Robin
How hard is it to find out if any BRASHEARS are buried in this cemetery? I am specifically looking for John Bradley BRASHEARS and wife Susanna. They lived at various times prior to 1860 on Paca St. and German St. (now Redwood) and I suspect they were Episcopal. So St. Paul's looks like a likely candidate with which to start my search. I know that Maryland Historical Society has burial records for this cemetery, can I write to them for a lookup? Robin
Just wanted to let the word out again about - Alfreda Patton Davidson from York, PA will be coming down to FRECOGS next meeting Saturday November 9 - 1 PM Homewood at Crumland Farms - 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD Alfreda is a full-time professional genealogist, who specializes in Southeast and Southcentral Pennsylania. She is a retired teacher - so we know she knows how to get the teach, and has researched in the past 25 years hundreds of families in over 30 counties in PA. She is so familiar with all the available resources and libraries, in addition to being an active member of many genealogical and historical groups - as researcher, editor, officer, and application reviewer (DAR and others). Since this is a special lecture, we are asking for a door fee of $2 for FRECOGS membes, and $5 donation from non-members to help cover the costs of lecturer and handouts. Don't miss this opportunity - attending conferences is much more costly. the week after the lecture - Frecogs Friends Road Trip will be to Harrisburg to try out our new skills in the PA State Archives. for more information - or to let Frecogs know you are coming and the right number of handouts can be available - please respond to Pepper Scotto CKFpepper@aol.com Pre-registration or payment is not required this time. thanks - and spread the word - Pepper Scotto, President FRECOGS Frederick County Genealogical Society, Inc.
Hi, Sorry, maybe this is better. Below, suggested by another family member. I think we would be interested in a Joseph Arthur, born in Maryland in Nov. 1843 (age 37 in 1880). We don't know his wife or children, but he might have some siblings living with him, specifically siblings named Edward Arthur (age 23), Martin Arthur (age 16), and Lucretia Arthur (age 28). Joseph had a sister named Eliza (Arthur) Pennington (age 34 in 1880), who was married to Franklin Pennington. It is conceivable that Joseph and/or some of the siblings mentioned above might have been living with Eliza in 1880. Chances are that all these people are in Harford County or Baltimore. So, Joseph Arthur or Eliza wife of Franklin Pennington, are the primary persons we are interested in at this point. Arlene of PA
And to who was this inquiry directed to???? With no dates or locations to begin with. I'm having difficulty doing the lookups because not enough information is being sent to me. If you have it, please include any information about ages and the names of any other people who might be living in the same household, including their relationship to the head of the family. Please send directly to my email address.
Thank you for doing look ups for others. Would appreciate if you could look up Eliza Pennington and Joseph Arthur (may have been a teacher). This is a brother and sister. Another brother Edward Arthur or another sister Jessie Arthur. Thank you so much. A. Larson of PA arlnlr@aol.com

My grandmother ran off to Ellicott City (from DC, I believe) and eloped. Why that town? OK, so I was a little early for the start date, but this will do. Here's a short history of Ellicott City In 1772, three Quaker brothers from Bucks County, Pennsylvania chose the picturesque wilderness up river from Elk Ridge Landing to establish a flour mill. John, Andrew and Joseph Ellicott founded Ellicott City which became one of the greatest milling and manufacturing towns in the East. The Ellicott brothers helped revolutionize the area farming. They persuaded farmers to plant wheat instead of tobacco and introduced fertilizer to revitalize the depleted soil. Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, was an early influential convert from tobacco to wheat. The Ellicotts made significant contributions to the area and the era. They built roads, bridges and a wharf in Baltimore, introduced the wagon brake and plaster as a fertilizer, erected iron works, a furnace, rolling mills, schools, a meeting house, stores and houses made from beautiful granite. In 1791, Andrew Ellicott was commissioned to survey the boundaries for the nation's new capital, Washington, D.C. He was joined by a free black man and family friend named Benjamin Banneker. Banneker worked closely with the city designer, L'Enfant. When the Frenchman abandoned the project and returned home, Banneker was able to recreate the designer's plans from memory. By 1861, Ellicott's Mills was a prosperous farming and manufacturing area, one of the greatest milling and manufacturing towns in the east. In 1867, a city charter was secured and the name was changed to Ellicott City. The only chartered city in the county, Ellicott City lost its charter in 1935 and was designated an historic district by the county in 1973 and today serves as the county seat. Howard County was very active during the Civil War. The B&O Railroad and the National Road, which ran through the middle of Ellicott City, transported goods for both sides! The railroad and its bridges became prime targets of the Confederate Army. A contingent of Union soldiers were strategically stationed in the Elkridge area to guard the Thomas Viaduct. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathi Jones-Hudson" <mdcat.geo@yahoo.com> To: <BALTGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 15, 2002 5:19 PM Subject: [BALTGEN-L] Ellicott City / Howard Co. > --- timothy robinson <trobinson42@comcast.net> wrote: > ... Well, I must jump in here, as I have lived my entire life in Catonsville, which is the neighbor of Ellicott City. Catonsville being in Baltimore County, separated by the Patapsco River, and Howard County to the West of Catonsville, which is definately where Ellicott City is, and has been since the later 1600's. The far west end of Catonsville, is the town of Oella, which folks there have an Ellicott City telephone exchange's & zip code, and a lot of them like to say they live in Ellicott City. And also the town of Oella, being the home of Benjamin Baneker. Actually Tim, Howard Co. wasn't formed until 1851 --out of parts of Anne Arundel and Baltimore Co.'s. It is one of the later formed counties. Probably why it can be confusing to research that area - depending on when it was and where it was exactly it could be AA or BA Co. records that researchers need to check. ===== Kathi Jones-Hudson MD Tombstone Transcription Project Manager http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/maryland.html __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
