Mona, There is a Canton Time Line http://www.cantoncommunity.org/welcome/neighborhood/canton_timeline.html Your church is not mentioned directly. Jean, Thank you for the Canton Timeline link--guess I haven't done a web search for Canton since it went up! Also, thank you for checking on my question. I have looked at the Archives and will have a lot of film to look at on my next trip to Baltimore (Annapolis). You are right--there were earlier copperworks (in the area--my family was at the Locust Point one from 1845-50, and then moved to Canton. My earliest ancestor died in 1854--I have no idea where he is buried, as his obit didn't say and he is not at Mt. Carmel with the others (Mt. Carmel opened just months after he died). Thanks, again, for providing new direction for my research. Hello! Does anyone know anything about the United Welsh Church that was in Canton? It was established in 1852 in a schoolhouse, with the Rev. Benjamin Davies. A new chapel opened in Jan. 1867. I also found an 1870 mention of "a Welsh house of worship about two miles northeast of the city (Baltimore) near the Canton Copperworks". I am not sure if these are the same church or are two different ones. (Neither is Abbott Memorial, which opened later.) My family arrived in Baltimore from Glamorgan, South Wales, about 1844-5 to work in the copperworks, and I am trying to find out where they worshipped. I would like to know where the records of the Canton-area Welsh churches are (any denomination). Thanks for any help or suggestions. Mona Everett
Passed on from another list.......REIFSNYDER Photo;......... Tim R. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Lizzie REIFSNYDER which was taken at the J. T. Reading Studio in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with Lizzie looking to be in her early teens at the time. I believe that she may be a member of the same family you've entered on Rootsweb. I'm hoping to locate someone from her family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley > [email protected] < ==== PALANCAS Mailing List ==== No political statements to this list. Dear Deborah, Thank you for your kind words. This list has helped me over many stumbling blocks and through many brick walls. Many people here look things up for me when I can't find them. I just would like to give back to those that have done so much for me. I am a great believer in the principle from the movie "Pass it Forward". If I can be of any help to you here in Harford County or at Garden of Faith I'd be glad to help. I'm a little slow but I will try to get it done in a timely manner. Thank you again. Gail
Gail - You're a saint... I grew up in Baltimore, my tour of duty (high school years) in Harford Co in Jarrettsville... Most of my family are buried in Gardens of Faith Cemetery, including a couple of friends that passed as teenagers... I do the same things for folks here in Raleigh, NC - it takes angels like you to help others to find there ancestors. Good for you! May many blessings come your way this year! Searching for George Gambrill, born early 1900's, who married Madelyn Moore in Maryland.
Looking for information on the following HAUSNER family. My mother was a Hausner and I found a book that her grandfather kept which had the following Hausner obits in it. HAUSNER - On August 31, 1914, ALOIS, aged fifty-six years, beloved husband of Johannah Hausner (nee Bihler). The funeral will take place from his late residence No. 408 South Clinton Street, on Wednesday, at 2 p.m. Interment at Western Cemetery. HAUSNER - On September 17, 1928 JOHANNA, aged 55 years, beloved wife of the late Alois Hausner. Funeral will take place from her late residence, 408 South Clinton Street, on Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment in Western Cemetery. From my own research I have found the following information about this HAUSNER family but I don't know how it connects to my HAUSNER family. I am hoping that there might still be descendants from this family that might be able to fill in some gaps and possibly tell me how they are related to my HAUSNER family. Anna Reding died by 1876 which is about the time John married his second wife. John died in 1917. Any information on this family would be grately appreciated. Lisa
Dear Lynn and list members, I had a very wonderful visit to Garden of Faith today in the very very cold weather. A very nice consultant (Brenda W.) took the time to walk with me to the various burial sites and she provided a map for me. As part of their service they put flag markers on the roadside to direct you using your map. Today, the work crew was very busy so she took me out to the sections I needed but we still need someone from the road crew to help us. Lynn, I was able to locate and take pictures of the site for Charles A. Lingner and his wife Anna. I can email you the pictures if you like and I can send you the locator map by regular mail. Charles Lingner died 2/26/1976. I was able to locate Milton Krauk and his family so that now I have an actual death date so that I can request an obituary from Enoch Pratt. I already requested my limit (5) for this month. Even though they were unable to find those - I will have to wait until next month. For any other Krauk researchers the death date is 8/20/1977. I was able to see that his son is buried in that plot and it looks like his wife and daughter-in-law may still be living. I hope to contact them and perhaps they can offer me more guidance on the Krauk family. Milton's father was the older brother to my George Herman Krauk. Thank you all for your help with Garden of Faith. They have more Krauk's there but Brenda did not print off a list for me so I will have to make another trip. Lynn, please let me know if you would like the photograph. Oh yes, while visiting the grave sites Brenda noticed that the Lingner marker, the Krauk marker and the Callahan marker that we saw had all sunk down and she said she automatically would put in a work order to have them raised back to ground level. Louise Callahan's marker was totally under water so I will have to revisit to just be able to see it. Gail
Tim, thank you for your kind offer and I am amazed that they were so helpful. I live in Harford county and if the weather is as beautiful tomorrow as it was today I will go down to the office or give them a call first. You are very kind and generous and I have appreciated all the information you have posted in the past. If I find the information that I seek - I will post it to the list so that future researchers will have it. I have struck out completely with my Enoch Pratt obit recent requests. They were always able to find just what I was looking for however this time even the ones with exact dates ... were no where to be found. I will have to keep digging. Again, this list has been great to help guide me and give me answers that I couldn't locate. I hope I can pass it on. Gail
HI, Is Garden of Faith the cemetery in Rosedale? I think that is where I was told my grandfather was buried Charles Lingner, but since I was told in the late 70's I could be wrong. After that nobody would talk about him. I have the same problem as Gail, I only know that month and year of death. Gail, I called Garden of Faith, and they stated that there are familie's of KRAUK there, and if I had given him some 1st names, he would have directed me to the area they are interred. I don't know where you live, and if you can call them, but if you are too far away, I could do it for you, when I get the next chance. Garden of Faith Memorial Gardens 5598 Trumps Mill Rd. Lisa, Starting some time during the 1920's, the City Directories added a criss-cross listing which shows exactly what you are looking for. If you think the brother-in-law and/or his family lived at that address during these later years, the Enoch Pratt Free Library should be able to assist you in this search. I'm not aware of any online information from Gardens of Faith. Many of my relatives are buried there, including my grandparents. Several years ago, I visited their office and asked where my grandparents were buried. They looked it up, somewhat unenthusiastically, and gave me a map to help me find it. This cemetery is large and has only ground level grave markers so it isn't easy to find your way around. It couldn't hurt to give them a call to see if they will help you out. Another possibility is to write to funeral homes in the area. My German ancestors all used Lassahn's, which is nearby. I wrote to them requesting any information they had about my greatgrandmother, who died in 1936, and I was able to get some very useful information that led me to her village in Germany. Best of luck! Janice M.
