My comments are that if I don't recognize the names or ain't got no relatives down in TX, I just won't open the email. I think this is quite simple and I wouldn't have written such a long dissertation to note my displeasure. I am an IT/OK BAKER who had Ancestors cross the red River but only for a short time. I give credit for the list and the effort put into publishing it. On a side note, I looked for my gggrandfather's grave in Murfreesboro AR And finally a 'grave counter' found it for me - it seems he was visiting His daughter when he died and in those times the weather and roads were so bad she buried him in HER cemetery. -----Original Message----- From: Jerry and Becky [mailto:jnbathens@bellsouth.net] Sent: Saturday, July 16, 2005 12:23 PM To: BAKER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BAKER-L] Multiple Grave Marker Picture References Allen, Thanks for the link! I only chose this one to provide a comment back to you about your many postings. Sorry if I offended you! You do a nice service! I just think you post too many in too many Lists almost everyday. Some of the pictures you list are more difficult to find than others. I think fewer postings monthly rather than daily would be adequate for people to be aware of your fine service. This is my comment for your consideration. I have talked to others with a similar opinion. But, just this one time, because you are so special, here is the picture's address on ROOTSWEB: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~t42cemeteries/Texas/Tarrant/MountOl ive/BAKER_Venus_1901-1995.JPG I can assure you that you will not have to look at the other 104 Baker pictures in this cemetery, the 40,000+ pictures online in this cemetery and the dozens of other cemeteries I have photographed. I keep statistics and the greatest number of viewers seems to be the way I am doing it right now. Please go photograph a few cemeteries and show me how you'd do it by doing it. I have visited various cemeteries and even your website many times. However, If someone has to search through your website to find a picture, why post dozens of single individual picture references as you have been doing? Simply post that many with this surname are buried at the cemetery and your cemetery website has pictures of the gravemarkers. Invite people interested in your geographical area to come and look. I think your many posts on dozens of mail lists with individual names on grave markers is a waste of effort and is spam to many people. I often get multiple surname lists each with dozens of your postings of individuals and that is all that is in the lists. This is spam to me and detracts from the meaningful info in the lists. If it is too much trouble to link to the individuals picture, don't bother posting the individual's name. Just think how much simpler that would be for you! Most researchers know they can look up cemeteries and find transcriptions and can do web searches for pictures of grave markers. Don't misunderstand me, it is great that you have many pictures of grave markers posted on your cemetery website and that is a very fine service! However, a single post once a month for each surname mail list giving your website features is sufficient! Leave out single individuals names OR list them all! But don't waste many folks time by multiple single listings of one name across dozens of surname mail lists everyday! It is simply too much spam and distracts from the more meaningful information on these various mail lists. I invite others who may agree or disagree to comment on this.
