Baker of Southern Pines, N.C., passed away on the afternoon of March 21, 2001. Born in Plattsburgh in 1906, she was the last surviving of nine children of Isabelle and Robert Baker. Her sisters, Elizabeth, Marion, Gladys and Helen, and her brothers, Otto, Kenneth, C. Robert and Arthur, all predeceased her. A commercial subjects teacher, she taught for 49 years in Union High School, Union, N.J. After retirement she moved to Ridgewood, N.J. to be nearer her two older sisters, Elizabeth and Marion. In 1996, she moved to Florida with her nephew, John Christie and his wife Shirley. Since 1996, she has been a resident (and/or patient) at a nursing home in Florida and, for the last six weeks, in Southern Pines. Surviving are 11 nephews and nieces and one brother-in-law, Urgel Carpentier of Plattsburgh. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Plattsburgh.
