    1. Death of Martha Baker of Prince Edward County, VA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Davidson, Davison, Dorman, Baker, Thompson, Thomson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JCC.2ACEB/8653 Message Board Post: Martha Baker of Prince Edward County, VA was the daughter of Douglas Baker and Jane Thom(p)son (daughter of Rev. John Thomson who is buried in NC). Douglas Baker was the son of Robert Baker and the brother of Caleb Baker (the Caleb who married Martha Brooks; there were several later Caleb Bakers in this line). Other siblings of Caleb and Douglas apparently included Robert Baker, Junior, Andrew Baker, James Baker, May Baker, Mary Baker and Samuel Baker (all are not independently verified by me). Martha Baker married William Davidson around 1768 (+/-). This William Davidson was apparently out of the "Buckingham County, VA Davidsons," not the "Prince Edward County, VA Davisons." John and Ann (Sons) Davison's family in PECo had a William of the correct age, but he did not marry Martha. There were three other William Davidsons on the 1764 Buckingham County, VA tithe list, and three of the Davidson men from that county were in the PECo militia (Edward, David and William Davidson showed on militia rolls in PECo in 1776 and 1781; these men were in addition to the William Davison from the other Davison family mentioned above). Per a Library of Virgina record that I just found today, Martha Davidson died in Botetourt County, VA (where she and William had moved around 1774) on 7 Feb 1829 at the age of 78. This is per the Saturday, 28 Feb 1829 edition of the "Visitor and Telegraph" newspaper. Per William Davidson's Botetourt County, VA will, he died in 1812, and he left 4 living sons and 4 living daughters (only two of whom are actually named in the will), in addition to his wife Martha. Perhaps the best-known child was Rev. Andrew Baker Davidson, and he performed many marriages in the Rockbridge County, VA area in the 1800s (he died in 1861). He had several grandchildren in the War Between the States-all sons of James Dorman Davidson (an attorney and poet)-and all 5 of James Dorman Davidson's sons died before their father James did (two or three were killed in battle, one of them after General Lee had already surrendered, and Charles A. Davidson apparently died of TB after the war). Charles A. Davidson was the notary public who signed the Amnesty Document that was signed by General Lee.
