I have hit a brick wall with mine. All I know is that he was a mariner and was 'at sea' in the 1851 Liverpool census and possibly a witness at the wedding of his son John Matthew Baker at Aber N Wales in 1875 (though this William might well be John's brother) On his own wed cert 1850 Liverpool, his father is John Baker brick layer. regards Martin Val Baker just in case you come across our William !
