Anna Louise Baker 01 Oct 1928, The Morning Herald Page 3 ELVIRA A. DUTTON Mrs. Elvira A. Dutton, aged 89 years 6 months and 5 days, one of the oldest residents of the city, died Saturday morning, September 29, 1928 at 10 o'clock at the home of her son, William H. Dutton, 68 Highland avenue. Mrs. Dutton made her home with her son. Mrs. Dutton suffered a paralytic stroke Friday night while preparing for bed. She never regained consciousness. She was the daughter of Upton King and Mrs. Sally Bates King and was born April 21, 1839, in a log house in what is now Haddenville. She afterward lived in Uppermiddletown and was married there to John Baker. To this union five children were born. Of these five, Mrs. Elizabeth Poundstone and Laura Baker preceded her in death. In 1870 she was married to Andrew H Dutton and to this union five children were born. Mr. Dutton died in 1892. The five children of the Dutton union were born in the one time Beeson mansion in Beeson Avenue, now the Palmer home. Mr Dutton had seen Uniontown in great stages of growth and progress and had seen Main Street, a lane of trees and frame houses, grown into its present day business center. In 1860 Mrs. Dutton saw the first Baltimore and Ohio passenger train enter Uniontown and since that time had seen the Pennsylvania and West Penn and Burgess field offer other transportation. Mrs. Dutton was given her first, motor ride by Russell Sessler of Highland Avenue in 1904. She was the last of a family of nine children. She is survived by eight children; Mrs. Ruth Offerd of Grand Ridge, Illinois; Grant Baker of Kansas and Mrs. E. W. Trader of Atlantic City, N. J., all by her first marriage. And W.R. Dutton of Highland avenue; Mrs. Albert Poundstone of Grand Ridge, Illinois; Thomas J. Dutton of Highland avenue; Miss Mary Dutton and James Dutton of Highland avenue by her second marriage. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the home of William Dutton with the Rev. Charles Beck officiating, assisted by the Rev. Frank Hollinshead.
