I to have had a major problem finding any mention of my ancestery. My 3 Great Grandfather was Lawson Baker from NC and he died in Missouri. I was told that many recoreds pre-civil war years were lost in courthouse fires as the Union rode through destroying all the records of slavery and land ownership that they could.
