Baker passed away on June 14, 2011 at the Inn at SharonBrooke. He was born on June 9, 1922 to the late James and Mable (Wilkin) Baker in St. Louisville, OHIO. Ralph served in the U.S. Army as an engineer from 1943-1946 during the Battle of Okinawa. He was a graduate of Utica High School. He was a member of the Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church since 1947, the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice S. (Rummel) Baker whom he married August 4, 1946; sons, David (Sandie) Baker of Newark, Ohio and Rev. Dr. Dennis (Debbie) Baker of Zanesville, Ohio; brother, William E. (June) Baker of St. Louisville; sister, Ruth (William "Bill") Young of Heath, Ohio; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, OH and from 10-11 AM on Friday at the church. A funeral service for Ralph D. Baker, 89, of Granville, Ohio will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church, 1415 Londondale Parkway, Newark, OH with Pastor Kenneth E. Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church, 1415 Londondale Parkway, Newark, OH, 43055.
