There is no reference to his parents' names. He started out in the 47th Reg't of Foot as shown in the "Index to Army of Reserve 1803". I've searched all of the available LDS parish records for towns near Hlllington but cannot find his baptism. Not all towns' records are available for 1780/81. I'll take a closer look at the Norfolk GENUKI. I know of Christopher's movements while enlisted and his land grant for his service, medals awarded and much of his life after service...it's before he enlisted that is a mystery. Thanks for your help. (again) Linda Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You might want to contact the regimental historian or museum (you can google it) or read a regimental history to learn more about the movement of this regiment. Unfortunately, all the paylists are in National Archives in London England. But sometimes, some stuff is found in Museum and Archives hers. There are very good resource in the Norfolk GENUKI. Quite a few of the parish register have been indexed and are searchable. In addition, original registers for Norfolk are browsable online at familysearch.org. I have been quite successful with another soldier from Norfolk, but he was a Chelsea Pensioner which made it easier. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I've been working on my family tree off and on for the last 40 years, but I do my direct line I don't try to add all of the other branches. It would be enough to fill a huge book. I have about 60 pages about a story of the Bakers and Philadelphia and that is just what it is, a story. No one has ever proved it to be true. I couldn't find the RR tracks when I was back there 3 years ago, but as I said a distant cousin in N.Carolina was there several years ago and did find them. The Capt. John Baker that the Bakers of Monroe Co. Ohio related to was buried along the river on the W.Va. side. There is a marker along the Hwy. about Bakers Station/Fort. He was killed by Indians in 1789? There is a John Whetzel buried next to him. I haven't found the spot, but a cousin says there is a red X marked on the RR tracks identifying the location. Sometime after the was of 1812 or Civil War one of his grandsons put a mounument to him in a cemetery in W.Va I have been there and there alot of Bakers in that Cemetery. (Betty) Baker of Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the age of 85. Betty was born on July 15, 1925 in Greenville, Pa. to Martha Lanning Eaton and her husband, Leonard. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Loyd and Lavine Lanning Baird. Betty graduated from Greenville's Penn High School in 1944 and from Thiel College in 1948. After college she began her teaching career in Kane, Pa. After four years in Kane and one year in Greenville, Betty moved to Erie in 1953. While in Erie she taught at Wilson and Gridley Junior High Schools, the Florence Crittenden Home, and did home-bound tutoring. Betty married Paul C. Baker on July 17, 1954. They were married for 44 years until Paul's death on November 18, 1998. During her time in Erie, Betty was a long-time faithful member of Kingsley United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Women's Society officer, candy maker, and doing whatever else was needed. She also enjoyed time at the Glenwood YMCA, and, after retirement, at the Mercyhurst Senior Center. Betty and Paul traveled extensively after retirement, taking several cross-country trips, European vacations, cruises, etc. After Paul died, Betty decided she'd like to live near her children and grandchi! ldren. She moved to Normandy Farms Estates in 2003. While in Blue Bell, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler and participated in several clubs and activities at Normandy Farms. Betty never forgot a friend; her Christmas card list was made up of people she met as a child in the 1930s to people she met after her move to Blue Bell and many from the years in between. She was always an optimist and looked for the best in everyone. Besides her husband, her parents, and the aunt and uncle who raised her, Betty was preceded in death by her brothers/cousins, George I. Baird (and his wife, Donna) and the Rev. Loyd L. Baird. Betty is survived by her children, David (his wife, Darlene and their children, Kevin and Julie) of Warminster, Pa. and Martha Tillow (her husband, Jim and their children, Brandy and Chris) of Thomaston, Conn. Betty is further survived by a brother, Mark L. Dudley of Spring Hill, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Charlene Baird of North East, Pa.; and a brother-in-law, Jim Baker of Stockton, Calif. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler (Butler Avenue at South Ridge Avenue). Friends will be received after 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A memorial service will be held at Kingsley Church in Erie at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Kingsley United Methodist Church (913 Cranberry St., Erie, PA 16502) or the ACTS Hospice Fund (812 North Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, PA 19002) would be appreciated. All that I have found is on US Census Records 1850 to 1870 show him from North Carolina only. He was born 1805 in NC and died in Nodaway Co. MO. in 1870. He married in Clay County MO. around 1826. That is about as much of his pass as I know. I have all his kids and know that he had 2 brothers and one of them was born in Tenn. in 1817. I have tried in vain to locate his place of birth in NC. It has been one of my main reasons for my research. I guess I just don't know where to look! Any help at all would be good as I really don't know what else to do. Thanks Bruce for your reply. Ann Baker was apparently born in NY City in 1756, but I don't have more specific information. She died in Musketa Cove in Feb 1832. Robert soon followed in Oct 1832. Robert and Ann married on 26 Sep 1778, as recorded in New York Marriages, 1600-1784. Daughter Zipporah was born in 1784 in Musketa Cove, married Oliver Cock (Cox) in 1802 on Long Island and moved with him to Dayton, Ohio, where she died in 1835. I don't know how accurate the birth location is for Ann Baker. There were numerous Bakers on Long Island and in New Jersey at the time. They appear to have complicated relationships with Bakers in neighboring states. :) I would appreciate any information that would narrow my search.
