They were Baker girls descended from Jacob Israel Baker, who was born in McLean County, Kentucky. Supposedly, Jasper Newton Baker who married Gladys Monroe in California is somehow a cousin from one of the Bakers in my tree. My Aunt Alice had once lived in Los Angeles and ran into Marilyn Monroe somewhere. She told her who she was and that she was the daughter of Charley Baker. Marilyn had been to Kentucky a couple of times and had met some of the Baker family. She talked about some of them to my Aunt. At this time all I can remember is that she met Volney Baker, who had lived in Oklahoma, but moved back to Kentucky for awhile. I wish I could remember more of the people my Aunt said Marilyn had met, but Volney is the only one I can remember. Jasper Newton Baker came from Knox County, Ky and my faimily came from Muhlenburg and! McLean Counties which is western Kentucky, eventually moving to Oklahoma. I don't know what the connection is to my line. Does anyone know if the Baker family that lived in Knox County had any relatives in western Kentucky? I don't know the connection to my line, but from what I remember my Aunt telling me she seemed to have met people that Alice knew were part of her family. I have always been curious as to the connection. I know that my Baker family originated from Jacob Studebaker, who changed his name to Jacob S. Baker. He was the father of David S. Baker, who I am descended from. My great grandfather was Millard Fillmore Baker. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. But the information isn't the same as your David's. I think there may have been another Solomon Baker in the family with a son David that was your ancestor. Solomon Baker and Delana Fulkerson's son David was born 31 May 1795 in Westmoreland, Oneida Co., New York. He moved with his family to Lebanon, Madison Co., New York as a young man. He married Dolly Batchellor (daughter of Joseph Batchellor and Sally Gachet) around 1815 or 1816. They had at least 4 children: George Washington Baker, Orange W. Baker, Louisa A. Baker, and Freeman Baker. There were probably more, but these are the known ones who grew to adulthood. David Baker died 13 Apr 1853 in Madison Co., New York. So your David son of Solomon's dates (1812-1880) and our David son of Solomon's dates (1795-1853) don't tally up, plus our David never went out to WI but stayed in NY. But I do have a guess as to how your David and ours fit together... My understanding is that the Rev. War patriot David Baker had as many as 18 children, but at least 3 sons, Solomon, David and Jesse. I wonder if your line looks more like this: David (Rev. War) | David (ca 1765-ish; give or take 10 years) | Solomon (ca 1790-ish; likely not later than 1795) | David (1812-1880) instead of this: David (Rev. War) | Solomon (1770-1847) | David (1795-1853) Have you found out any more since you added your query? It would be nice to see how the families really fit together! --Kathryn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'd love to know more about them (where did the younger David come up with the name Orange to give a son, for example?!, and where is he buried?) and about their ancestors. May I contact you directly, and are you still at the zippyzebra email address? Thanks very much! --Kathryn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I know it's been a long time since you posted, but I am hoping you might still be getting emails when someone replies to you. It appears that you and I are 2nd cousins. Gloria Jean Baker Forshey is my grandmother, though she and Ethel both are now of Ashland, KY. Also, from what my grandmother has told me, LaVada (as they called her) was not stillborn, but was born with a hole in her heart and lived about a year or so before she finally died (probably less based on the dates you got from the cemetery). Granted neither one of our grandparents were around for this, but I think it is at least true that she was born alive, as my grandmother often tells the story of one of her older sisters (Fern, I think) claiming to have seen angels/heard heavenly music shortly before the baby died. Anyway, just adding the little bit of additional info I have, and wondering if you have turned up anything else about our mutual ancestors since the last time you posted. If so, I would lo! ve to hear about it. Also, don't know if your side of the family ever talked about this, but Sarah Minor (Perry Baker's wife) was supposedly full-blooded Cherokee. I can't confirm tribal affiliation, but my grandma has pictures of her, and she definitely was not white. Not even a little bit. - Kelli Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
