I see Jennings and Phillips listed. Do you know how these two names connect to the Baker family? Was Anna a Phillips? In the Baker cemetery is John Hall and Horace Salesbury,do you know how they connect? Did you hear of Rhoda Baker Herod, Collinsville Ok. Sophronia's father was born in Indiana and Mother -Arkansas per census 1880 MO. I think John J. Baker was her father, but haven't proved it yet. He would have been born in early 1800's. A grandfather of mine who was born in 1843 is his son. His son was born in New York. I was told that this John might be/have connections to a bigamist. Do you have any knowledge of this or heard any rumors that might help. I found his son relovated on the 1850 census to Michigan with a Lucius Baker. I'm not convinced of this though and have even started to believe these are not the same Stephen. I haven't found any trace of Peter or the elder John of Wells. Given Stephen's age I also can't decipher what relationship he is to James M. Beagle, Sr. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jbeagle Surnames: Beagle, Bedell, Beadle, Downs Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.baker/1410.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In 1810 James M. Beagle, Sr. was 16-25 (b. abt. 1785-1794), married, and childless, where Francis Downs, Jr. was 26-44 (b. abt. 1766-1784) with up to 10 children, 2 of which were boys 16-25. Francis' sister Elizabeth probably did marry a Miller, but my theory is that Francis had a daughter named Elizabeth that married James M. Bugle (Beagle). Civil War records state that James, Jr. was born in Hope, NY (not yet established at his birth) as Beagle and Bugle, and that his father was James and mother was Elizabeth Downs. Those records indicate that he was also known as James M. Bragle, which supposedly the New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center has a picture of. I have not yet tried to obtain this picture. The info about Stephen and Jeremiah coming to Wells from Coxsackie came from the Wells town clerk. She obtained this from the earliest town minutes book. There were alot of Bedells (also listed many times over the years as Beadle and Beagle) residing in Coxsackie, and the surrounding area, since the late 1770's. These are some of the same Bedells from Dutchess county, and prior to that Long Island. I'm convinced that the Wells, NY/White Creek, NY/Bennington, VT Beagles are actually Bedells going back to Robert Bedell of Long Island but I can't prove it yet.
