As a suggestion, have you contacted 1) http://www.censusfinder.com/massachusetts-genealogy-society.htm which might give you some places to find out what seaport was used to arrive in MA...or was there another colony that was the seaport arrival. (Just because this website is hoping you will join a society, doesn't mean one can't seek other information. 2) Bevery Historical Society, Beverly, MA, since this is one of the last places you know of last visited by your Baker(s)? http://www.beverlyhistory.org/ and Cabot House 117 Cabot St. Beverly, MA 01915 (978) 922 1186 info@beverlyhistory.org 3) A great reference book to seek archic records like those that you will be looking for which tells where to find these records and what they will be is this reference book: "Genealogical Encyclopedia of the Colonia Americas" by Christina K. Schaefer ISBN# 080631576-8 which take in all other areas that the British visited. You won't believe what can be found within this book concerning where records can be found/housed/made accessable, also at the end of every chapter there is a bibliography of suggested reading that is awesome and tells you where to find it. It's worth even an investigation. Rhonda Warmack Houston

Thomas Baker 1763 - 1843 Date: Mon, 19 Aug 2002 20:56:29 -0500 This is what I have - Thomas Baker and Lydia Hand were married 01-06-1784 near Trenton, NJ. After marriage they removed to Redstone PA where they resided for 2-3 years before heading to Butler Co. Ohio. Hearing of serious trouble with the Indians they stopped a year on the Hockhocking River below Wheeling. They spent a year in Cincinnati before moving to Butler Co., Ohio. My questions are where is or was Redstone, PA and the Hockhocking River? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Usually a noteworthy place of any consequence was originally a military post with a fort and the fort will be left behind as a marker from which to begin.. http://users.telerama.com/~cass/brownsville.html The next time you have a question as to where some place is located...you have the old location and you have the state...place redstone +pa +location into your favorite search engine and let the internet do your work for you; remember to use only lower case and place only one space in between words used to search with and you will come up with the area of yesterday. Then, use the resources provided for your inquiries and NEVER leave a post without asking for a referral if the individaul who answers your inquiry doesn't know what you are talking about...otherwise you will be left with a brickwall before you have begun! "Ngaire Paterson" <ngairep@wave.co.nz> Subject: [Baker-Roots] my brick wall Date: Tue, 18 Mar 2003 15:54:58 +1200 My brick wall is my gt grandfather JOHN BAKER, born about 1794 somewhere in Ireland. He arrived in New Zealand in about 1828, and we know nothing of his 'previous' life. He may have come from County Cork. What we do know is that he was a Catholic, and he married and started our branch of the Baker family in New Zealand, of which there are now many hundreds of descendants. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Are you aware of it that Ireland and New Zealand have family history centers all over and by going though your local family history center, you will be able to speak/communicate with another family history center and human being who can assist you with what information they have available. My great-grandfather Solomon Baker was born in Ohio in 1821, married Mary Ann Kiser in 1851 and died in Macon County, Illinois on Nov. 26, 1871. I found him at age 28 in the1850 Federal Census in German Township, Clark County, Ohio in the household of Henry and Elizabeth Baker. I therefore assume that Henry and Elizabeth are Solomon's parents Henry was born in Virginia on August 26, 1786 and died in Macon County, Illinois on Feb. 7, 1877. My theory (and it's only theory) is that Henry was the son of Jacob Baker, son of Philip Baker and Catherine Gramm Baker of Rockingham County, VA. Philip, the immigrant, was born in Worms, Germany and died in Page Co., VA. I would like to prove or disprove that Henry was Solomon's father and that Jacob was Henry's father. ----------------------------------------------- Ruth, Have you gone through/tried obtaining any wills, probate, etc from the Illinois' Macon County Court house and maybe go through also the Macon Co historical/genealogical society who would assist you with this task? Illinois has many, many historical/genealogical societies to seek assistance...ask and you will receive! Try placing the words with only lower case (no capitals) letters with only one space in between each word, into your favorite search engines and that way you will find many, many websites to go to for assistances. Remembering about eliminating those captials and keeping to using only one space in between words, will gain you terrific resources with which to work. illinois +genealogical +societies (this give you the whole state's) illinois +macon +co +historical (this will narrow down specific counties of a state) Rhonda Warmack Houston (rfhouston@mindspring.com)

Did anyone think to: 1) get on Clay and/or both counties of Clay and Owsley to ask questions and seek out other resources these two counties have to offer 2)contact these two public libraries via the internet (using search engine) for contacting one of these facilities to see if there was a history of each of the counties asking for the ISBN# (international standard book number) so you could ask you librarian to find this particular book within your state's library system or send for the particular book you want to learn more about this feud from Clay or/and Owsley county, Ky? 3)Of course finding a county history of any place you aren't familiar with is terrific resource material because it usually have resources within the back of the book from which you can draw more information about what you want to know.
